I just picked up Fatal Frame 1-3 for $75, all complete and in mint condition. It seriously looks brand freakin' new.
Now I can finally use those Fatal Frame custom covers I made!

That's because it is new.
GameStop actually bought up a ton of the brand new $39.99 reprints that Game Quest Direct made and simply gutted them at the warehouse, stickered them as Used for the same $39.99 it costs for a new copy, sent all three to every store, sat back and profited.
It's a dick move, but you end up saving a bit anyway with the edge card so it's not all that bad.
I understand how Game Quest Direct works, but based on your description I don't see how Gamestop profited. If they sold them for the same price they bought them ($39.99 according to you) in addition allowing customers to use their Edge cards for 10%, then I don't see how they sat back and profited. Were you implying a deal in which Gamestop bought them in bulk at a cheaper price?

Yup, if GS bought several thousand I'd think they'd be sure to get a discount.
Remember, the $39.99 is the retail price, but the suppliers and wholesalers deal in different pricing schemes than what finally reaches us on the consumer level.

Actually, these weren't reprints. All their cases had memory card holders, which the reprints do not have. There were other ways to tell reprints apart as well, such as product numbers, etc. According to a friend of mine who did pick up the reprints, these were originals.
The manager said that he actually remembered the exact customer who traded them in, and seeing as he knows I'm an employee and a friend, I don't see why he would be lying to me.

Oh, cool.
I do know that all the stores I frequent including my own have all received one copy of all three titles respective reprints as 'Used' from warehouse and they do have the newer cheap non memory card holder cases.

Yeah, that's cool. I know my store got the reprints, but they were just bought up immediately by that friend of mine who compared my find with his.
The store I bought these from was in a very low-volume area, and so it's highly likely they never got this shipment.

Our store doesn't get the most in sales but I'm glad we do just good enough to get all the smaller print run titles and rare gems to make it over here like Raiden Fighters Aces, Phantom Brave Wii and the Qubed: REZ HD/EEE Extreme/Lumines Live printed disc.
And they lay on the shelves for months and months until I buy them once the prices drop below or around $20 90% of the time if I don't buy them immediately.

I didn't even think about that when I bought my copy of PS2 Rez 2 years ago. The disc was so perfect I just assumed it was probably a reprint they put directly into the used section, but it does have the memory card holder. It also happens to have an extra page 9-12 stapled in the middle too.
Is the case a surefire sign? How else can you tell? I'm not gonna go and try to sell my copy or anything, I'm just curious if it is a reprint or not.

If you bought it two years ago then you bought it before Sony switched to the non memory card holder cases for PS2 games. That and REZ was reprinted before the case switch anyway.
If it looks like it's factory new a good sign that it's a new game converted to used is to look on the back and see if there's a white bar code sticker on top of the case's rear bar code that has a big black R or a black square with a big white R in it. This stands for refurbished by the GameStop warehouse, but is also a sign of gutted new copies marked as used coming straight out of the warehouse.

Nope, no R. The disc is perfect, but the case is a little scuffed. I just figured it had been on the shelf long enough to have been slid around by customers.
