Looks like there will be no Virtual Console at launch, what are people's thoughts? Are there many features at launch, or is it mainly a couple of games. I really wouldn't see this as an issue, but this is something pretty commonplace to have nowadays.

It's been rumoured for a while and it's been hyped as a big deal, but I don't really care. I have very little use for Virtual Console... I am excited for online multiplayer in Virtual Console games, but I can wait.

I suspected the Switch wasn't really ready to be released in March and that this is just a 'soft launch', to push it out before the end of the financial year. The drip feed release of games over the first 9 months is smart though and hopefully the Switch will be 'fully functioning' by summer.

Edit: I concur with this comment:
I never said they were. But when is it enough? It’s like Nintendo can’t do anything now without having the VC tied around their necks. How many decades does a new system need to drag along with it? 20 years from now do they still need to put SMB3, Super Metroid and Ghosts n Goblins on each machine?

Do you need the PS1 library on your PS4? PS5, PS6? Are we moaning to Microsoft to put the original Xbox games on the One?

Nintendo has done a LOT to make the classics available over the last 12 years. But now again, not good enough.

I agree that this is a sort of "soft launch". It gives them some time to build up momentum before the holiday season, hopefully with quite a bit of positive word-of-mouth sales.

I am not concerned about not having access to the virtual console at launch. I have zelda to tide me over in solo play, I have 1 2 switch for social play and if that doesn't tide me over I can buy bomberman and if that doesn't tide me over I can do shovel knight and if THAT DOESN'T tide me over I can get I am setsuna. I think I will be fine.

Word, bro.

There's also Fast RMX, which was just announced as a launch title and I cannot wait for. Fast Racing Neo on the Wii U was amazing!

Yeah the launch lineup is not as bad as everyone is being led to believe. Families have the Skylanders game and if you are like me and always behind on the times I have shovel knight and the like and they are the definitive versions. What is being offered is far more than enough to last until the next batch of stuff comes like splatoon 2 and Mario kart and Arms.

It doesn't matter to me personally, since I have no plans to get one particularly soon.

That said, I think writing it off as unimportant is not really the way to go. While the particular implementation of the Virtual Console has varied, it's a good thing to have in general. Yes, we do still want Nintendo to make those old games available, just like we do want PS1 games on PS4 and on or X-Box games on Scorpio/etc. Similar to how we still want classic books/movies/music available on new formats.

Nintendo has a substantial back catalog, and seeing them come out of the gate and do it right would have been nice. Obviously, they still could end up with a great solution, but having it day one would have made for some nice publicity. Especially given that the system itself has zero backwards compatibility with their home or portable line, which is a first since what, the Gamecube?

This is my first pre-ordered console, so my body is ready.

(Unless GameStop screws up. This... is possible, despite my defense of them at times.)

I've only purchased a few consoles at launch over the years. PS1, N64, PS2, Xbox, and now the Switch. I've yet to come across a launch lineup that had more than two or three games I was truly interested in. So far I regret none of those purchases. And if I am being really honest with myself, I'm at a point in my life with family and other responsibilities where more than that would result in unplayed games for several months.

The games that have been announced for 2017 are promising enough. Not to mention we haven't had any really big trade shows like E3 since the launch lineup was revealed. I'm sure there will be more to come this year than what is currently on the docket. Seriously, its going to be fine for early adopters barring any huge technical glitches. (I'm referring to some early reports of JoyCon disconnections. These people don't have the day 1 patch though)
