Lets Talk About GTA

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Same thing here. I keep seeing and hearing new little things all the time. It's the way all the people move and react (including Niko) that makes the game feel alive and detailed. Definitely not a perfect game, but it is turning out to be a fun and interestingly broad experience. One thing that's pissing me off is the driving mechanics though. Having sunk 25 hours into Ridge Racer 6 over the last few months doesn't help me - I keep wanting to slide around!

IGN gave it a 10. as in perfect. as in the first 10 they've handed out since 2001.

i agree with your complaint about the car physics. i think they went for a more realistic car handling as opposed to the more arcadey feely of the earlier games. more real = less fun IMO.

Wait until you get the better cars later. You'll find they're a little easier to control. Some cars stick to the road, some don't. It's a little bit more realistic and I quite like it.

I've learnt to drive properly on the game and i'm enjoying it much more now. You can't just go full throttle and then just handbrake round the corners anymore.

Since when are perfect games boring at any point? I understand the easy for the first missions, but the game shouldn't be boring at any point in the game if it's a game worthy of all 10s.
They serve as tutorial missions to get people new to the game into shape, You'd pass up much of the game without them.
EDIT: just kinda realized this but you an mozgus are certainly passing alot of judgment on a game you have barely even played. That's just a little bit silly.

They also serve as introduction to new features, eg mobile phone, internet cafe, the activities (bowling, darts, pool etc), relationships, how the new wanted level system works... and so on.

So not completely useless really. Besides, it's an hour of play time at most. It's not that big of a deal really.

AwesomeMonstar - Mozgus has said he has spent a lot of time playing the earlier GTA games, so he's not talking out of his ass here. The overall idea is still the same as the past games.

On the driving mechanics: I'm still early in and so I'm driving mostly crappy cars, but I've found a couple things help me. I'm braking early and then letting off the brake completely. If you try to hold the brake the whole time around the corner (a la an arcade racer) the steering will lock up and you'll just slide into a phone pole or building on the far side of the intersection. I find the e-brake just flips me all around and there's no finesse whatsoever.

Secondly I'm pumping the gas a bit as I take the turns. I guess you could just half-hold it to slow down, but that requires too much to think about as I also look at the GPS and avoid the cops.

Aww, how cute. Rockstar thinks they make hardcore games.

All this time I thought GTA was aimed at the casual market.

... hrmmm, to quote that link:
...but I can't say I particularly aspire to be an Eastern European human smuggler, drug runner and murderer. Nor do I wish to be an escaped mental patient on a killing spree, or a table tennis player. I can't say Rockstar makes games with life goals that echo my own.
Unlike the writer of that article, I am NOT a fan of GTA, but can understand why so many different people enjoy it. Which they do. It has quite a bit to offer.

But no, it isn't something anyone should aspire to be like, AND, sorry to tell it to Houser the douschbaggins', the "casual gamer" market is what got his title so fucking big!

I mean really, GTA is the game that you smoke a bowl and then run over old ladies with shopping carts. Name me one person who put more time into the story then they did to turning on "riot mode".

Oh, that sounds reasonable... actually no, it's the opposite of that, that's completely unreasonable. I played ff 3 and 7, so that means I can totally judge 12 right? It's the same overall idea. I've seen godfather 1 and 2 so that means 3 is good too right? It's the same deal. There is no good reason to pass judgment on a game that you haven't played, sequel or not, especially if the rest of the gaming world has fallen in love with it.
