Anecdotally, everyone who has played Chrono Trigger in the modern age without having played it prior has said the game does indeed live up to the legendary hype.

*edit: wrong thread, balls!

went with the switch version here, since unlike the GC/Wii Zelda TP fiasco, they seemed to have dropped all the WU tablet stuff at some point, meaning it's no longer the definitive version, for me.

No problem. You saw my feelings about the game for a long enough stretch. I have no expectation other than for a long while I was mostly set on not buying it so I expect nothing. Possible dread at best since I disliked that LTTP open-ish world mess on 3DS. Going in with no positive or negative hype and I've ignored much of the detail about it anyways so it should be refreshing.

Early impressions are sounding incredible.

The hype is suffocating.

I'm not ashamed to admit I popped a boner reading some of those early impressions reviews and watching footage.

Sorry for my crudeness and crass comment, but the hype is unbelievable! I haven't been this excited for a Zelda game since Ocarina of Time.

Suffocating eh? Probably surprises you I've seen almost nothing hype wise about the game other than scrolling by and ignoring headlines. :)

Yeah, I'm drowning in the pressure. ZELDA IS GOD.

But I've been pretty skeptical as most have seen all throughout this thread. But the things I'm hearing on podcasts are the best. Not to mention that Giantbomb's Beastcast podcast, the guys talked about Zelda and Horizon Zero Dawn back to back. I was going to tweet them to see if they can answer some questions... but they had a lot of gripes with Horizon and it seemed like a few of them were lukewarm on Witcher 3 like me. They basically knocked on the cluttered map, systems, micromanagement, ingredients, way too much crafting, etc... all that usual fluff you hear about with open world. But they never ONCE complained about any of this while talking about Zelda, so that to me seems rather telling that Nintendo are doing something totally different here.

They talked about how it's the hardest one since Zelda 1 (and 2 for us rare fans). And that in 5 minutes, you're basically in the game and can go anywhere. I know a lot of people have been annoyed by Zelda's long ass introductions, even me, so this is nice to hear. And I just love hearing how this game sounds hard, because most of them are pretty easy usually.

A little daunting to hear Dan from the crew mention that he was 20 some hours in before he even did a dungeon. Insane. But it sounds like there's a lot to do on the world map and a lot of big villages, that Nintendo has been on lockdown with and hasn't showed us anything.

One guy threw out a question, wondering if the overworld here is like Wind Waker's barren ocean... and they shot that down. The world here sounds far more intricately designed with a lot of deliberate and detailed locations all over.

So... yeah. I can't stop the kid inside me when we're this close to a new Zelda. My pants have exploded off.

For the record, I'm still really excited and interested about Horizon too. But... I just thought I would throw that out there, unless they just glossed over Zelda pulling its influences from WRPG stuff, they didn't seem to have any of the usual Ubisoft/Bethesda-esque complaints at all.

What I gleamed from zelda crafting is that it is primarily for food and potions whereas horizon has crafting for everything and it is essential to craft ammo. That may be the big game changer on the crafting argument.

@Xeogred Dude, you're echoing my thoughts entirely. It sounds incredible and all the things you've picked up on are things that have eased my skepticism and have got me excited.

And honestly, I have both pre-ordered and I was excited for both games, but all this Zelda hype has had me unfortunately going "Horizon what?", I'm sorry to say. Hell, if I hadn't already been charged and had my order of Horizon processed I would have been tempted to just cancel it and wait until the price had come down, so I could buy it at a time when I'd actually have more free time to play it.

They had a good point about Sony sending out Horizon review copies earlier than the norm (nowadays), probably was a sign of confidence AND that they want to try and shadow this Zelda hype haha. It's so true. I'm sure Horizon is going to be a blockbuster, but yeah. ZELDA.

I feel like I'm not even that worried about the breakable weapons. I can't think of a single game where I've liked such a system, but when somebody compared it to Halo's style of constantly swapping out weapons and always having options, it just sounds like it will never be a huge deal. I dunno... I'm not fully defending it, but the more I hear the less I'm worried about this too. The joke is that eventually you'll get the Master Sword and it will be unbreakable, haha.

Dan also talked about how in his 30 some hour run so far, he never once ran into some kind of wall. Another guy joked "like you can't jump that high yet?" ... so yeah Dan talked about how the few abilities he had early on and everything else, was enough to always figure out any situation, shrine, or whatever. Like, every single area might just be meticulously designed enough for the puzzles to be figured out right then and there without having to get X item and backtrack. Sounds fascinating if it really works out that way and if the whole experience truly flows that organically.

I haven't played Link Between Worlds yet, but the guys all said that this game takes all those ideas even further and refines everything. They glossed over this quickly, like Breath is just instantly even better.

The open world fatigue is real with me... but I'm really giddy over this one if it can seriously capture the feeling of Zelda 1 in 3D. I was there from the beginning and 1 was my first. So stoked to see how it does it.
