That line of knowing when to abandon a plan and start reacting to your opponent is a fine one.

Usually if your building up to a combo - you have to be willing to take some damage...but sometimes it gets hairy. Before you know it yr down to like 10 health and even though your about to put the hurt on; if they have something sneaky in the deck, it's all over and you go from, "I'm about to crush you dood...to, oh crap, I lost 30-0."

Last night after you and I played I went into the Arena - was building up into a huge combo - purposely built a deck with more powerful characters, but not taunt characters, as I was planning to use characters who can give taunt. I had two stealth tigers (5 attack each), letting them lie in wait, then laid down a clockwork giant (8 attack) and was finally going to play my Enhanco Mechanic on my next turn (gives every minion "taunt, divine shield, or windfury"). He has 2 cards, he lays 'em both - both low value minions and he still has a Frostwolf Grunt and Lepper Gnome in the field. So, he has 4 minions - all low. I play the card that deals -4 to all enemy characters. Now, he had 26 health, I had 8, but I felt fully in control. My field was super strong, about to give them taunt, or wind fury, etc - he had no cards and an empty field...again, felt fully in control. Best case scenario for him, he gets an 8 or 9 value card that I have to destroy on my next turn. More likely; he gets a lower value card, a Bloodfen Raptor or something...either way...i'm sitting pretty.

His turn, he gets dealt a card. It turns out to be King Krush; an 8pt CHARGE character. Boom - game over. Lose 26-0; almost any other card and I finish him on the next turn...but instead it looks like a blowout.

Such a deep game. Absolutely love this.

Yeah I love it as well, wish I had more time to play, but still fun every time I do get a moment.

So I started playing a bunch and am starting to accumulate gold. Should I hold out on buying packs and save up for the solo adventures for their rewards? Or should I just put it into the packs?

dogman91 wrote:The arena isn't better IMO because they only award 'Goblins vs Gnomes' packs as of this writing, which are more suited to *specific* types of decks; otherwise I would agree.

There are many 'must-haves' that are only in the Classic packs, which can only be bought with gold manually ATM other than the "Spectate a friend" daily quest.

In regards to the solo adventures, there are five "wings" per solo adventure that are 700 gold each that award 6 unique cards individually after completing them. So that's 30 unique cards after grinding 3,500 gold.
If you go this route I suggest going with Naxxramus first over Blackwing Mountain (because there are more staple cards in Naxx).

If you're just starting out I'd suggest getting a bunch of Classic packs, as no matter what you'll open a slew of new (essential) cards.

Make sure to grind your characters levels to 10+ to unlock the basic cards too!
I'd start off with that, then after a few packs of those here and there try Arena. Solo adventures would be last on my priority list (but still worthwhile).

Haha thanks for the tip! Also...Arena...what is it? So new I can not express the sheer stupidity of my knowledge of the game!

So I found out why my phone was dying so often over the last few days. Friday they did a big update on Android and there is some sort of bug where even if you close the game it is still running on certain phones (like my Galaxy S3). So I went from a full day to about thirty minutes of battery life. I emailed Blizzard about it and they are aware of the problem and working on fixing it. I uninstalled it this morning and four hours later I still have 90% of battery life - ej what it use to be. Just an annoying bug.

What does it mean when dogman starts watching you, you play a card, and then he stops watching?

Yesterday was the first time I didn't get my daily challenges. Only had time for 3 games against randoms (played noise 3x too). Had to use the guy, um Warlock? The guy with the Life Tap special - and i'm not good w/him at all yet. Only won 1 of 3 before having to turn it off :/

I did play my first "Grinder", apparently. The guys entire deck was Taunt characters and instant hero attacks. It was like playing a game in mud. I get that it ensures you a chance to win every match - but there isn't any critical thinking, no combos, no big moves, etc. Just slow and methodical. It took like 18 minutes for the match and I think the final score was 4-0 (I lost). Was the first time i'd call a match "boring". Hopefully they fix that - in doing some reading it's a very popular play style amongst players who get into the rank 18 and lower range. They should set a limit to the number of taunts you can have, imo. It sounds like Blizzard is very open to community feedback - so, here's to hoping.

It means that I was watching Noise vs you and wanted to see what cards you had, but instead it switched me over. :P

Put a bunch of silences (Ironbeak Owl, Earthshock...) and AOE (cards like Flamestrike, Polymorph, Frostbolt etc for Mage) to get rid of the taunts. Of course you can also just attack them with your minions and keep yours alive cuz a lot of the Taunts suck (1 Attack taunts like Mogu'shan Warrior, Goldshire Footman, Silverback Patriach are all terrible because they just die to one or two minions and don't kill anything).

actually this was funny because I didn't know dogman was spectating, and Mike and I had been chatting during the match, and suddenly dogman sends me a message "oh cool you have such-and-such a card" and for a second I was like "WTF? How does Mike know I have that card? He's cheating somehow."

It makes sense you thought I was cheating - was that the match I won:
39-0?
