After we finish the JRPGs, Action RPGs, WRPGs, and strategy RPGs, would anyone else be interested in playing a roguelike? Or am I the only one into those games? Seems like a pretty major subcategory most folks ignore. I would wager most RPG gamers haven't ever tried one so it might be worth a spin.
I think it can fall under the other categories. It could probably depending on the game, fall under anything but a strategy rpg. But I wouldnt necessarily be against this if others wanted a specific sub genre like that. I tried to use the broad ones in order to keep things a bit fresh.
AFAIK, I haven't played a rogue-like since urogue.

Yeah that's kind of how I feel.

A good number of the Mystery Dungeon games have been localized like Torneko: The Last Hope, a couple of the Shiren games, Chocobo's Dungeon, the Pokémon games, and The Nightmare of Druaga: Fushigino Dungeon.

There are also English patches for the first two Mystery Dungeon games on Super Famicom.

Azure Dreams (PSX, GBC) is another one I've wanted to play for years now.

For Western titles it's pretty easy to find digital versions of Dungeon Hack, NetHack, and of course Rogue itself. I was actually given a physical copy of the Tandy version of Rogue last fall, but unfortunately it was dead on arrival.

And Phantasy Star 2 wins narrowly over Lunar

1. Phantasy Star 2 - 16
2. Lunar SS - 15

We will play Phantasy Star 2 after we finish Shining Force 2 starting on July 11th. We will use this thread for our game thoughts in a couple months.

Phantasy Star 2 - July 11th - Sep 11th?

I've played Phantasy star 2 and Shining Force 2, but haven't beaten either (the former I just gave up due to difficulty). I might kick back my Shining Force 2 file again, I was pretty far in the game.

I am interested in trying out crystalis for sure.

Ok I think we should plan on ending crystalis Dec 11 as it is a short game and not a lot of participation on it thus far.

So that means we need to discuss schedule and what to play next. Should we go to games that had 2nd place votes? Should we venture into more specific genres?

I think we should vote on whether or not there should be a vote. And if that vote determines that yes there should be, then I think we should vote on the number of choices we'll be voting for. THEN, I think we should brainstorm titles for 6 weeks. Then an informal vote to determine which of those nominations will fill the slots of our vote. Then we let a poll run for a week or so to crown the winning game for January. Then we should start the process over, rinsing and repeating until the calendar is full and everyone declares it "easily the worst year of Together RPG since I joined the site."
