the lack of time I've had to play this game this week is killing me

ok, so I finally had a good hour to sink into this for the first time in almost a week. Slight improvement over my old score, but my deaths were largely avoidable making me think that a 20K run and/or a 1-All is within my sights within a week or so (and almost certainly by month's end )

What I am a bit confused about is that I KNOW I ended stage 3 with a ~250ish chain due to some bomb-infused lasering on the boss. Why didn't that count as my max chain in my final score?

It won't show boss chain by your initials, only stage chain.

Nice improvement, the 1-all is definitely in sight!

Did a quick run and I actually improved.

Managed to no miss the first two stages, but fell apart again in stage 3. Missed the 1up also. Could have sworn I destroyed everything, but I did bomb, so maybe that was it. Got to the boss and just spaced out for too long; got hit by the tracking fire as I was dismantling it.

Also, I noticed that if you use a bomb and pick up a bomb, it will still put you into the maximum bomb bonus. Could be a handy thing to know in the future.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I first thought you had to have max bombs before picking a bomb up to activate maximum.

On the same note, I think the only bonus from picking up a bomb with max bonus going is the 10k. So, if you are in any sort of danger, it'd be wiser to bomb and grab the bomb to re-enter maximum. Its good for score AND survival, which is rare

Son of B! Stage 6 is insane. All new bullets (fire lazers, green ninja stars), all new enemies, and the stage would not end. Got to Stage 6 with 2 lives and may have had my best run on any game ever, I was unconscious. Cleared first 3 stages w/o dying, had my max running the entire 3rd stage and didn't bomb once until the 3rd boss. Had my highest chain by far (238) and like I said, stage 6 w/2 lives...and still didn't make the boss.

As exciting as it was - I also feel discouraged. I honestly don't know if I can play that well again. Oddly, the 1-All feels further away right now than it ever has :/

You're almost there. If you have two spare lives, that a ton of bombs. Try not to ever die with bombs in stock, just keep bombing in the close spots. If you can make it to the last boss with a spare ship in stock, you have it in the bag.

I used 'em all on w/the first guy. Second life (my last life)...didn't use any, was in a pretty manageable spot (or so I thought) and got clipped. I will admit to you all, I nearly teared up, and then stared at the screen in disbelief for a solid 90 seconds. I considered blaming and disciplining one of the kids, but held off.

To get the 1up on stage 3, all you have to do is destroy the 3 orange hatches on each side of the big ship (SIX total). You don't have to destroy anything else; though why wouldn't you? Bombing is OK, too. Laser, shot, die, continue, bomb some more...doesn't matter. As long as all 6 hatches are destroyed, the 1up will be there.

Finally got on the scoreboard (although last place here). I'll continue playing, but I'm still unable to break big scores on the first level.

Coming back to this after not playing any stgs for 3 months has been brutal. I'd like to clear at least 1 loop by the end of the month.

You should come over before the end of the December. We can start our own subsection for 2 player high score on the Saturn.
