So for Castlevania 64, I'm starting a saved game that I had begun around the beginning of May, but had put aside to play Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest. I like the game a lot more than I used to, in no small part because I have a 64 memory card and you really do need one for this title.
I had gotten to the halfway point before jumping ship to play a JRPG, but having finished that earlier today, I finally turned Castlevania 64 back on...and promptly remembered why I had stopped playing. Magic Nitro is the devil. It killed me a week or two ago when I stopped playing, and it killed me today numerous times. But I did it. I finally made it through the enemy laden obstacle course, carrying a compound that would not allow me to get hit or jump in a platformer. I clawed through it tooth and nail, but in the end, I spat on that bottle of Magic Nitro's face and made it my bitch as I plugged it in with some mandrake and blew it to high hell solely to get through to a magic machine which...well...awakens a boss.
And then said boss ate me.
Great.
So now to try figuring out the best way to beat a giant bull!
Snickerd00dle's Summer Challenge 2012 - how is it going?

Re: Snickerd00dle's Summer Challenge 2012 - make your lists!
some of the PC games I'm considering...
Cave Story - this is a definite.
Indigo Prophecy - another definite.
Fallout 1 or 2 - maybe. Never got into WRPG's.
Half-Life 1 or 2 - definitely one or the other. I haven't played much modern FPS.
Guilty Gear X2 - GOG has it with sndtrk for cheap. I've never really played the GG games, though I'm a big fan of BlazBlue.
Super Fighter - a "cult pick" -- as featured on the RBCast.
Loom - played a bit as a kid, always seemed cool to me.
...thoughts on these or other suggestions? It might be sort of interesting to do half "major" games and half indie/freeware/doujin games.
Also, I probably won't pick a shmup for the list. I enjoy playing shmups for score more than anything else, so I don't know if I really want to throw one on here with the goal of "beating" it.

Let's see...an adventure game is a must. I'd suggest one of the Monkey Island games.noiseredux wrote:some of the PC games I'm considering...

As you said, you need to play Cave Story and one of the Half-Lifes. I'll let someone else decide which one to play for you.
Otherwise, VVVVVV, Super Meat Boy, and I Wanna Be the Guy.

already beat Secret of Monkey for TR. Doing Maniac Mansion in Oct, so I'm thinking Loom. Although there's a giant HG101 book of Adventure Games to choose from as well... maybe I should venture out beyond Lucas, eh?YoshiEgg25 wrote: Let's see...an adventure game is a must. my goal is to beat these games, so Guy is probably a bad idea haha. Isn't V6 notoriously difficult as well?Otherwise, VVVVVV, Super Meat Boy, and I Wanna Be the Guy.

IWBTG was definitely a joke. I've watched one of my old roommates play it; I doubt I ever will now unless I get emo, where I'll just replace cutting with playing that.noiseredux wrote:already beat Secret of Monkey for TR. VVVVVV is kinda hard, but it's the kind of hard that makes you want to keep playing. It's actually the only one of those three that I've beaten. It's worth it just to hear all of the music throughout; fantastic soundtrack that game has.
Oh, and maybe try an old Age of Empires game?

VVVVVV does look interesting. I'll think about that one.
I don't know what Age of Empires is?
I might go with the PC port of GTA Vice City so that I can try to join JT's screenshots club.

Nah, stick to Lucas, but play Sam & Max. Imo, it's the real must play of the bunch. That said, I'm gonna play Grim Fandango if you can get hold of that!noiseredux wrote:already beat Secret of Monkey for TR. Doing Maniac Mansion in Oct, so I'm thinking Loom. Loom is sort of standing out to me because of nostalgia. When I was a lot younger I did play PC games, so I'm thinking of some of the ones I had and remember enjoying... Loom, X-COM Terror from the Deep, Doom, Jazz Jackrabbit...

Keep a watch on GOG for their sales. I managed to get Fallout 1 when they were giving it away but they have half-off sales so often you should be able to get it for cheap.noiseredux wrote:some of the PC games I'm considering...

And I liked Loom. It runs in ScummVM so there's no hassle in getting it to run.
You just refuse to 1CC these games, don't you? Also, I probably won't pick a shmup for the list. I enjoy playing shmups for score more than anything else, so I don't know if I really want to throw one on here with the goal of "beating" it.
