Keeping pace with mjm, just a little behind still. I feel that 1cc is getting closer...

Man, poured 3 hours into this today and that stage 5 is just insane. I can't find a path. I'm hitting that stage with 2-3 lives and I just get wiped out fast after the mid-boss. I must be missing something...only making it to the boss 25% of the time, and nowhere close to taking him down.

Well, my score isn't holding up well. Perhaps I should 1CC this ASAP...

Do bombs actually blow them up? That would be nice. That 45 seconds is just ridiculous, I take 7-8 hits. It's horrible.dsheinem wrote:try bombing deliberately through the tough stretch with the lasersmjmjr25 wrote:Man, poured 3 hours into this today and that stage 5 is just insane. I can't find a path. I'm at 450 mil steady on stage 1 now and have a hyper lined up to start stage 2.
I usually take 1 hite on stage 2 at some point. I've chained the entire stage twice and both runs was in the 1.2-1.3 bil range.
I've also figured out how to avoid losing my chain on the mid-boss. For starters, do not go hyper before or during that battle, he will die too fast. Additionally, even just reg. shooting him, you need to pause toward the end (even though it hurts the chain counter, it will start counting back, and just before it goes from purple to red, start shooting again and finish him off). This will give you enough time for new enemies to come on screen - he needs to be strung along, otherwise kill to quick and chain dies before new enemies appear.
Stage 3 - man, if I could string that start to finish, i'd bet theres 2bil on that stage. I've gotten a billion on that stage alone on my best run, but took a hit mid-stage.
Stage 4 is my best stage by far, I typically absorb 1, sometimes 2 hits and anywhere from 600mil-1bil total on that stage.
Stage 5 - I can get to the midboss w/o damage and have a nice chain going, then I just turn to absolute crap and usually only do 300-400 mil total before I die out.
Anyways, very modest improvements:

For the first time I take the top spot (which was my goal a week or so ago when i started playing this intently).
So goddamn close to the Stage 5 boss and a 1cc. I was just about past the end of the lasers section on Stage 5 and just had more than i could handle. I probably could have picked up 200-300million more if I'd played level 1 and 2 better (came into 3 with only 800m or so), but i played Stage 3 and 4 pretty well.
I hate Stage 5, but my heart was beating a mile a minute. You can't get this kind of intensity and adrenaline from any other genre.

Re: DoDonPachi: Resurrection - High Scores
I told my wife I wasn't playing today...then saw yr post and said..."Well, maybe i'll do a run after all."
It was a similar run to yours, a bad Area 1, 220mil and then an "ok" area 2, 800mil total. Ended up having a crap Area 3 as well, but was good on health so played it out. Cleared 1.1 bil on area 4 and only took one hit up to the boss.
Did better on those spinning lazer things in Area 5, and made the second mid-boss before dying out. That stage is just insane. When I get the ALL, I will feel like it was well-earned.
