I thought you said you DID like SOTC??????dsheinem wrote:It is also very easy, so don't expect that to change (even though a few of the boss battles will require some minor tactical considerations).
seems like for the most part you can win all boss battles by doing this: use 2 characters to exploit boss' weakness (be it attacks, magic, whatever) and use 1 member to heal the party member with the lowest HP each round.
If it weren't for playing through Ico and SOTN last year, I wouldn't feel justified in having a negative opinion of those games.

glad to hear it's short. so far the best thing about it is the music, which is quite good. i don't feel like the battle system is that unique. the combo attacks are cool, but the ATB system seems as pointless to me as ever.dsheinem wrote:I am primarily enjoying it for its aesthetic elements (sound, graphics, artwork, etc.) more than I am for the story or gameplay, although the battle system was pretty cool for its day.

it was unique for its day as dsheinem pointed out. How is ATB pointless anyway? It adds urgency.geozeldadude wrote: i don't feel like the battle system is that unique. the combo attacks are cool, but the ATB system seems as pointless to me as ever.

wha-? it debuted in FF4 in 1991 and reappeared in FF6 in 1994 and CT was released in 1995. also, it may add a feeling of "urgency", but when the game's so easy you can get through battles by just using the default attack and targeted enemy there's no point to it. and anyway, since battles are short there's no significant difference in the order of when enemies and your team attack, lessening the point of it even more.noiseredux wrote:it was unique for its day as dsheinem pointed out. The combo system was unique, not the ATB.geozeldadude wrote:wha-? it debuted in FF4 in 1991 and reappeared in FF6 in 1994 and CT was released in 1995. also, it may add a feeling of "urgency", but when the game's so easy you can get through battles by just using the default attack and targeted enemy there's no point to it. and anyway, since battles are short there's no significant difference in the order of when enemies and your team attack, lessening the point of it even more.noiseredux wrote:it was unique for its day as dsheinem pointed out. What you say about there being no need for tactics in fights is true at the stage in the game where you are, but it is less true later on. That's true for many RPGs, of course. Still, even with the later bosses the tactics are simple. If you are looking for a challenge, CT is the wrong place to look.

woah was FFIV 1991??? I was thinking 93, but wow. Yr right.geozeldadude wrote: wha-? it debuted in FF4 in 1991 and reappeared in FF6 in 1994 and CT was released in 1995. also, it may add a feeling of "urgency", but when the game's so easy you can get through battles by just using the default attack and targeted enemy there's no point to it. and anyway, since battles are short there's no significant difference in the order of when enemies and your team attack, lessening the point of it even more.
At any rate, the ATB seems to matter more for boss battles than just usual fights. Either way, ATB adds urgency for me. I'm less likely to eat a snack mid-battle if it's ATB instead of turn based.
