Anyone else following the Dragon Boxes for DBZ? Last night I finally saw the scene with Gohan going SSJ2 legitimately for the first time in Japanese. Oh man. Chills.

I can never go back to the dub, never again. I absolutely cannot even describe how much better the experience has been watching the real deal. I'm looking forward to the Buu saga actually this time around and most Japanese fans don't seem to mind it from what I tend to hear.

Oh, DBZ. It was the first anime I ever saw, back when I was too young to even know the difference between anime and regular cartoon shows. I use to love it so much. Now I hate it. It's probably my least favourite anime ever. I understand why people like it. I mean the action scenes are pretty cool, and some of the characters (Like Vegeta) are kinda badass. But I can't get around the terrible writing and the mostly crap cast of characters. And I don't like the plot one bit either. The biggest and most important thing however is the fact that over time I just lost interest in action anime. I don't know why, but 9 times outta 10 I can't be entertained by an anime fight scene.

If you're watching anime in hopes of seeing quality writing and sensibly developed and well rounded characters, I fear you may be dabbling in the wrong field of entertainment...

It's funny you would say that, seeing as I've already found plenty of examples of quality writing and well made characters in anime. At least by my standards (Which aren't particularly forgiving).

Anime fight scenes are always incredibly hindered by the shoestring budgets they seem to always be made on.

I swear I've seen some good fight scenes in bigger productions but my brain is drawing a blank right now. Probably something theatrical or straight-to-video.

OH!

I've liked most of the fight scenes in Genndy Tardakofsky's shows. That's not really related to this thread though.

Samurai Jack, Dexter's Laboratory, that Clone Wars cartoon from 2003, and he directed a lot of Powerpuff Girls episodes too.
