Serious Sam: The Second Encounter (PC)(FPS) X-Men: Mutant Academy (PS1)(Fighting) Street Fighter Alpha (PS2)(Fighting) Extermination (PS2)(Survival Horror)
TOTAL: 4
I started this game back in October for our little horror gaming shindig, but ended up putting it down for a while after a nasty boss encounter drained much of my healing supplies. On a whim, I figured I'd pick it back up and see how things went, and this time I beat the boss fairly easily. Turns out I was most of the way through the game, so I went ahead and finished things.
Now that I'm done, I'm happy to report that I never have to play this game ever again, because frankly it annoys the hell out of me. I want to like it, but after the obscenities and death threats I screamed while fighting the final boss, I don't think I can. The game's got some solid ideas and some entertaining implementation, but it's too rough around the edges to be successful. The controls, the cheap enemies, and the infection system all hinder the game and keep it from greatness, though the weapon modification setup and means of carrying extra ammunition by acquiring extra magazines made for absolute gold.
I'll still recommend it to folks who have played the major hits of the genre and are craving more. But it's getting a disclaimer.
New Year, new list. I look forward to seeing other people reach there goals. As for me, I have none really, other then to try and get through some more of my backlog, which has had about 100 games added to it over the past couple of months.
*New*Red Dead Redemption (PS3) Despite me just saying I want to get through more of my backlog the first game I beat in the new year is not one of them. Im off to a great start. Anywho, on to the game. While it was definatly a fun game, it was not nearly as good as everyone makes it out to be. Granted, I have not play any multiplayer yet, so that may change. Its still leagues better then GTA4 though. While the game had a bunch of technical problems (really bad pop-in, character models duplicating themselves, gltichy animations, etc.) I was really impressed with the art direction. Far too many western games end up looking boring, unispired and flat. The land in this game felt real, like I could go find the places, that John went, in real life. Terribly depressing ending though.

Up next? Probably Demon's Souls. Picked it up after christmas on the cheap and Ive been slowly making progress. I've finished 1-1, 1-2, 2-1, 2-2, 3-1, 4-1. Currently working on 2-3 and then hopefully I'll finally be good enough to take out the boss of 3-2.

Achievement Unlocked is a cool little single-screen platformer that lampoons the ridiculousness of achievements in today's games. It's a browser game!

Definitely a departure from the core game, and I don't mean the story. The spooky moments seemed extra forced and just oddly placed. Also, this one replaces eerie moments of solitude and wandering for hordes of enemies and repetitive shoot outs. Meh. I clocked in just shy of 6 hours on this, and now I want it back I can't start a game without eventually finishing it.

I've played it before, but I didn't have enough time when I was playing it. It takes about three to four times longer to complete.

1. Spider-man: Shattered Dimensions (Xbox 360) 2. Power Stone 2 (DC) 3. Dynamite Cop (DC)
My wife and I have been playing Dreamcast together lately. We ran through Power Stone 2 a couple of times, which she loved.
I also recently picked up a nice complete copy of Dynamite Cop, a game I hadn't played for years. We played through the first three missions. We'll be working on the Showdown missions as well, but those are intended to be a special challenge. My wife loves the ridiculous things you can use as weapons in this game, and we had a blast. Every bit as fun as I remember it being.
