That's a funny way to say "Golden Axe Beast Rider is the best Golden Axe".MrPopo wrote: Golden Axe Warrior is the best Golden Axe.
Older. Not wiser.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Haha, Golden Axe is a hilarious guilty pleasure. I still view them fondly and replay them off and on throughout the years, but when I instantly start playing them again it's just like "well this is awkward". Always amuses me how boring the enemy designs are and with the massive color swaps, moreso than most beat em' ups that have better detailed enemies. The enemies in Golden Axe have like this giant green shirt on, then later you encounter the tougher red versions. lol
Screw the Altered Beast haters though, haters gonna hate! I love those games.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I still love the first Golden Axe, possibly out of nostalgia, but the 2nd and 3rd always felt pretty weak to me. I know 2 is 'more of the same' but to me it's 'more of the same, done not quite as well and at a time when things had moved on already' which is much worse.
I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think Golden Axe might have been the first game I beat. It was either that or Pokémon, they would have been around the same time frame.

A sick part of me really hopes that it's just the PS2 'Classics' collection they did some years ago but on a 3DS, but then I've really never been much of a Sega-properties fan. But seriously though, Dynamite Headdy 5-ever.

Me too! The storied Fantasy Zone II port more than justifies the price. (Seriously, read up on that game. The team that developed it went nuts replicating the "Sega Arcade Game" experience.)
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I actually like Golden Axe III a lot.
The original may not have aged that well, but it's far from terrible. It just commits the crime that many other belt-scrollers did back in the day, lots of palette swaps on enemies.

I actually think this sort of thing is charming and weirdly wish I could see it in modern games haha, but yeah.Sarge wrote:I actually like Golden Axe III a lot.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
If they make Golden Axe 3D (Discounting Beast Rider) they should make it like Die Hard Arcade where you are still essentially playing a 2D beat em up with polygons. Soon as you add 8 way movement like Fighting Force, it just falls apart.
