It's both sound issues and screen issues.noiseredux wrote:I always found the system itself quite comfortable to hold. It's just the batteries that really got me. What is that cap replacement stuff you speak of? I know that there were issues w/ the sound cutting out (happened to my old system). Is there more than that?alienjesus wrote: I beat 4 Game Gear games last year. The Game Gear isn't that bad to play on when you have the caps replaced.
I had the capacitors changed in 2 consoles. Both had no sound (or almost no sound) and are now reasonably loud and very clear.
Both also had very blurry images and were very dark. One was almost impossible to see. Replacing the caps means the screens are now bright and clear, and only have the usual amount of blur you'd expect from a Game Gear screen. Getting someone to swap the caps didn't cost me too much, and if you can solder yourself, the actual caps are dirt cheap and I don't think it's too hard to do?
Pretty close to 100% of Game Gears have cap issues nowadays, they were all made with crap parts. Getting them fixed is like night and day, it's like a whole different console.
Doesn't help the battery life, but eh, what can you do.
