So what have you guys been watching lately?

Started The Americans last night. Really good so far. It's about KGB agents living in the US during the Cold War.

Absolutely it is. I can go back and watch the old cartoons, even with their cheesy lines. But EVERYTHING about MMPR was terrible, when I went back to watch it.

I was too old when the Power Rangers came out to enjoy itm my little brother liked them and the show was ridiculously terrible. I am sure age hasn't done it any favors.

Never watched a single episode of Power Rangers, and from what I have seen I never plan to. Same with Pokemon. Not saying either are bad, just saying I have zero interest in both of 'em.

If you never watched MMPR growing up in the 90's, then my advice would be skip it and check out some of the original Japanese Super Sentai if you are at all interested in the Tokusatsu series. Much darker and with more action than MMPR.
(Disclaimer: I know very little about the Super Sentai series. There's some vids on youtube like this Crash Course, and these guys are working on a documentary of the History of Super Sentai: Here's Part 1. There are fan subtitled episodes available online if you use google fu.)

Besides finding out just how much I actually remembered from the first American series when I saw it 20 years ago, the main reason I wanted to watch it again recently was for all that awesome grainy Japanese footage of the ridiculous fight scenes. However, I was disappointed to find just how little of it made it into the episodes and how much they were padded with the American actors' stories. I guess at a young age the show felt more action-packed than it really is. (Which is why I recommend Super Sentai over the American series)

I loved the show as much as the next guy growing up. But I tried to go back and watch some of it a year or so back as an adult, and dear god is it a horribly made show. Terrible acting, terrible special effect, bad costumes (specifically the monster baddies), incredibly predictable formula for each episode, and such cheesy dialogue. And the "teenager" scenes are worse than the crappiest Disney series out there.
Exactly why I love it so much, but I agree with EllertMichael. If Power Rangers wasn't a part of your childhood, you're better off with Super Sentai. Actually, that's the whole reason I decided to download Power Rangers for my kid. I was watching some Super Sentai episodes and got a huge nostalgia blast.

Also, I like sharing it with my daughter. I doubt that I would watch it on my own without her there.

okay... maybe the Green Ranger episodes...

Beside that Sherlock appears to be overreaching especially with his physical capacities, I think it's a mighty fine show so far. Season 3 is filming now, I hope it'll be as good.
