He should just form a metal band. No "singing" required.

If you want to use like a robot, just use Autotune.

In my experience that's pretty much the formula for success in country music for the past decade or two, so you should be all set.Forlorn Drifter wrote:I kinda want to make an album that is country...I can't sing...I can't play anything.

I guess its possible, but I have so little natural talent I wouldn't ever be good enough to get a band up behind me.AppleQueso wrote:You realize it's possible to learn how to sing, right?Forlorn Drifter wrote:... simply because I can't sing.
I don't want to succeed, I want to be good. If anything, I'd end up like any of the hundreds of artists around here and Oklahoma who get popular around the area, but nowhere else.dsheinem wrote:In my experience that's pretty much the formula for success in country music for the past decade or two, so you should be all set.Forlorn Drifter wrote:I kinda want to make an album that is country...I can't sing...I can't play anything.

"Natural Talent" is a loaded and frankly overrated phenomenon. All it really means is that someone was able to fairly quickly grasp the fundamentals of their craft when they started out and has a passion for it that pushes them to work on said craft.Forlorn Drifter wrote:I guess its possible, but I have so little natural talent I wouldn't ever be good enough to get a band up behind me.AppleQueso wrote:You realize it's possible to learn how to sing, right?Forlorn Drifter wrote:... simply because I can't sing.
Everybody starts out as an amateur. Passion and dedication are what makes you into a master, not "natural ability."
Seriously, call up a vocal coach or music teacher or something, ask them how many students they've had that claimed they had "no talent" that they were able to help guide into being a good singer. I bet you'd be surprised.

I dunno, probably just not worth the effort. What are the chances of me actually making doing good enough to support myself? Slim to none, at absolute best.
Anyways, nobody wants to hear what I have to say.

It's art. If you're hoping to do it as a sustainable career you're doing it for the wrong reasons anyway.Forlorn Drifter wrote:I dunno, probably just not worth the effort. What are the chances of me actually making doing good enough to support myself? Slim to none, at absolute best.
Because everything you have to say is generally defeatist nonsense. Honestly I kinda think you enjoy all the self-loathing you do.Forlorn Drifter wrote:Anyways, nobody wants to hear what I have to say.

Well, with music, in my opinion, with the amount of time and effort that goes in to try and do something original and not have the same tune/beat/melody/rhythm/riff as someone else, I'd need to be making enough money that I could passively support myself. Writing songs from or about experiences is really what I do best, and writing songs about a shitty job and how you write songs on the side isn't going to grab attention.AppleQueso wrote:It's art. Plus, a country artist who doesn't do live shows? I don't think I've ever heard of such a thing.

You really have no clue how many musicians actually do have a day job do you? That includes plenty of musicians who play live.Forlorn Drifter wrote:Well, with music, in my opinion, with the amount of time and effort that goes in to try and do something original and not have the same tune/beat/melody/rhythm/riff as someone else, I'd need to be making enough money that I could passively support myself. You actually have to be pretty popular and tour nonstop to make enough money to not need one.
And who says that having a day job would limit you ONLY writing about the experiences you had on that job? That's absurd.
