Electronics Themed Swap Meet Finds
Another run on the first Saturday of the month to buy more stuff that I really don't need. There is so much vintage stuff to discover when the once a month Electronics Theme Swap meet opens. I have a reason for using the Outer Limits picture! :D

Image

ATI 8 Pin Laptop Video Adapter - $1.00
Any cable a buck! The Seller recanted when I pulled the purple cable out of the knotted octopus pile. She stated it was for an XBox and wanted two dollars. I pointed out that it was for an older PC video card and got the dollar deal. The ATI cable is one of the cleanest adapters I've run across, allows for standard SVideo, Composite and RCA Stereo cables to hookup directly to the TV. I have an older laptop that has an ATI video card built in. Mine is a seven pin, maybe I might get this to work with a patch plug? In the meantime I use a four pin SVideo cable which fits directly in the seven pin of the ATI card in the Laptop to display the video on the TV. Pretty slick that ATI allows the SVideo cable as an option without an adapter. The other three pins are a puzzler, either Component or Composite and Audio connections? :?

Mac Laptop Video to VGA adapter - $1.00
I bought this for the daughter's Laptop Mac. If the screen ever failed, this would give an option to use it as a desktop with a regular VGA monitor. The stupid adapter does not fit, probably was made for the thinner Mac Air model. You mean that there is more then one type of proprietary video connector for the Mac Laptops?!

Come on Apple, would have it been so difficult to include a STANDARD VGA port in the laptop? ATI can do it with their video cards, why not the Mac? The irony of all of this is another seller had a fatter white Apple looking adapter, I could have sworn it looked like a HDMI to DVI hook up. I should have bought that one too. It might have fit, maybe he might still have it next month?

SVideo and RCA Stereo Cable Gold set - $1.00
Serial Mouse to PS/2 Adapter with PS/2 Y Cable - $1.00

More cables from another stall. Always good to have extras, but geez my plastic cable parts tub is swelling with all the additions.

Antronix 15db RF Amplifier MRA1-15 - 2.00

http://www.antronix.net/Products/mra.php
http://www.antronix.net/uploads/specs/D ... e_59_0.pdf

Take a close look at the bottom picture, there is a power brick with a RF cable attached. Unusual that the RF return lead connects directly to a power brick which also supplies the power for the amp. This is just like my Atari 5200 four port model, the single coaxial cable supplies power and the RF video/audio signal. My TV cable has one of these wired into my house due to five TVs and the Online Router sucking the feed. The subcontractor put in the amp to cut the online drops and TV fuzz. I have a feeling it might not be approved by the cable provider, so now have an extra just in case the installed amp fails.

Interact Superpad N64 Plus Controller - $1.00
Found a second one in the wild at a great price! This controller is THE one to get, the analog stick has a STEEL shaft. The cable is frayed in a couple of spots in the middle, an easy fix with solder and heat shrink.

Star Trek Phaser Mouse - $1.00
This is so geeky, cool and in quip from Spock: "Fascinating!" Though a Ball Serial Mouse, a very nice unusual collectable. It has a standard CR2032 battery inside for lights and sounds. The two top buttons with red lenses are for regular left and rick click. The pair of gold buttons are for selecting the Phaser sound setting. The large bottom mouse button "engages" the red lights and Phaser sounds. SET TO STUN! 8)

A thorough review with WAV file samples linked at the Quote:

To "fire" the phaser (thus engaging the sound and "igniting" the flashing LEDs inside the mouse's front), press & release that large rectangular button on the upper surface of the mouse; located approximately 35% of the way from the back of the mouse and positioned toward the center. The lights & sound will commence, and will stay on for approximately three (3) seconds, then automatically terminate (turn off).

There are two smaller buttons in front of that which slightly but noticeably change the sound. The left button gives the sound a somewhat "warbly" characteristic, and the right button gives the sound a more "powerful" feel to it. I believe one button sets the phaser to the "stun" setting; the other sets the phaser to the "kill" or "vaporize" setting.

Wacom Art Tablet CTE-440 - $2.00
At first I thought this was a Laptop battery, but with a USB Cable? Closer inspection revealed four lock tabs that hinted the Laptop battery, but then there are two buttons and a scroll wheel?? This is one huge touch Tablet used for creating Computer Graphics, but unfortunately no matching Art sensor pen. Still unsure of the lock tabs, maybe from a commercial work station? Plugged it into the iMac G3, a small blue LED lights up, maybe I can find a driver to make this work without the pen? :?
Image
EDIT UPDATE
I just downloaded the driver and got the Buttons and Scroll Wheel to work, just like a Mouse. No luck on moving the cursor around, I need to get that Bamboo Sensor Pen.

PS2 Nightmare Before Christmas - $5.00
I really wish there is a remake Medievil game for the PS2. Bought this as a holdover, still debating to get Death Jr for the Wii.

PS1 You Don't Know Jack - 1.00
Speaking of Jack, picked up a backup of a great party game. Oh if only the Buzz Controllers would work with this, a tempting mod. :?

PS2 Battlefield 2 - Free
A luck of the draw, I was only in this far away Gamestop to pick up a sealed copy of Wii Safecracker, the used copy of the game that killed my Wii Laser. As I was waiting my turn, the customer in front of me was trading in three games. Overheard the employee commenting that the trade in would not be worth much so the customer told the employee to not bother just keep the games. I jumped in and asked if I could buy the Battlefield game for five bucks. The customer told me to go ahead and have all three games for free. The employee was cool with all of this, maybe he didn't want to deal with a misinventory?

The two other games were Medal of Honor Vanguard that I THOUGHT I already have and Mercenaries 2 that I didn't have but it was in a generic case so I only took the Battlefield game. There is something very wrong in my quest for CIB when I refuse incomplete FREE games. After getting home and looking at my Medal of Honor 3 Pack, Vanguard is not part of the set! Somebody must have hit me with a Stupid Stick again, it turned out I didn't have that Medal of Honor Vanguard game and had a chance to get it free. Somebody please tell me the game is crap so I won't feel so bad.

TI-108 Calculator - $1.00
Only a buck, a spare basic calculator with slide cover and patriotic colors. When I brought it home my daughter recognized it and exclaimed she remembered using it in elementary school. Got me thinking that it is very common but might be a nostalgic collectable when my daughter turns my age? I'll hang on to it for her to discover years from now. :D
Wiki wrote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TI-108

The TI-108 is the least expensive, most basic, and most widely used calculator by Texas Instruments. The TI-108 is probably the most common American elementary school calculator due to low price, ruggedness, and solar panel power source. Along with the more expensive and newer TI-10, this calculator targets the K-3 student group for whom it will likely be a first calculator.
PS2 YOBO Portable LCD - $7.00
Seller: "Fifteen Dollars"
CRTGAMER: "There is no Plug, Five dollars?"
Seller: "Ten."
CRTGAMER: It may not work."
Seller and CRTGAMER dig thru piles of cables to find matching transformer, no luck.
Seller: "Okay, how about eight."
CRTGAMER: (Holds out bills) "Most I'll go without testing is seven."
Unlike my other PS2 Intec LCD which uses 9 volts, this one needs 12 volts. Very nice, it is car ready, no adapter needed. I can justify having two LCDs since I have two PS2s?

Two 12 Volt Bricks - 1.00 Each
From two other seller stalls. One is a 120 to 240 volt input Creative brand switching power supply, the other has a spike protector of sorts like a PS1 controller. Both are over an Amp rating, one of these will get a new compatible plug for the above LCD. I'll pick up two plugs, one for a simple car connecter and one for the brick.

PS1 MACROSS DIGITAL MISSION VF-X - $10.00
Image
I love the PS1 Japanese Import CD cases, the logo is a work of art like PAL Dreamcast cases. Macross games have the reputation of bland gameplay and graphics. So what makes this one unique other then the fact that it is a Japanese Import? A certain pair of controllers I own just gained another compatible Playstation game! This game is not even listed on Wiki, I'll add to it later. The PS1 Flightstick has only a limited amount of games that work with it. 8)

Image

Why could this not have been the import PS1 game TFX? One day I'll find this!

Alpha Metals .032" Leaded Rosin Core Solder - $3.00
YES! Leaded solder is getting as uncommon as a 100 watt incandescent light bulb, so very happy to spot this. I already have a .047" Leaded Rosin, been in the box for years. I bought it before the silly RoHS laws were passed. Nice to get a thinner strand as a backup roll.

Image

There was another person talking to the seller in trying to get a discount on the only three rolls on the table. The seller wanted three dollars a roll, a great price already. While the buyer was flapping his jaws, I reached down and snagged the only plastic wrapped complete roll off the table. Sometimes one has to be quick to get a bargain or a rarity.

Saw the fine print: "WARNING - LEAD POISONING HAZARD CONTAINS LEAD"
The other buyer yelled out: "Hey, I'm buying these!"
CRTGAMER: "Sorry, This one is mine. You have to be quick."
Other Buyer: "I gave you a deal at my stall before, won't happen again."

This is as bad as a shoe clearance sale, the mad grab. The seller look bewildered and took my three bucks. The other guy trying to get the discount was steamed. Okay, I admit it was a little mean to do that to the other buyer, but afterwards realized the he was just trying to buy the three uncommon rolls to resale at his stall at a markup price. Maybe I was a bit of a jerk, but happy to get over someone who was a greedy bastard. Should have snagged all three rolls, would have been an interesting banter.

Heathkit Daystrom IO10 Oscillascope - $5.00

The Mad Scientist in me; I love playing with the zero out OHM setting in the Simpson VOM and trying the different volt ranges. I still have not picked up an Oscilloscope but this is a very sweet start.
Well, this did not take long to find! Remember the 1957 Chevy styled Solder Iron I bought back in March? The same seller came out this month with this beautiful machine. When I asked how much, I think the old guy recognized me; he stated "For You, Five bucks."

We started talking shop and how an Oscilloscope measures "Time" of a circuit by showing the graphic vector scale of the electrical heartbeat. A better history assessment over a dial or digital volt reading. He then pulled another vintage item out.

Motorola Semiconductor Circuits Manual - $1.00
The cover states $2.00 so maybe not a big savings for a used manual? Wait a minute, the Spiral Bound book is from 1964! Very good condition with no dog ears or tears anywhere. Also a great read schooling me on the Oscilloscope with the high and low steps of the band meanings. Definitely my current bathroom reader for the next few visits.

Image

"We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical." Setting the knobs is tricky!
Bah Wah Ha! Ha! Ha! It Lives! The scope is a blast, I tested the electrics in my finger, dragged the son out to show the ultra geeky cool bygone era tool. The metal cover started getting hot, this could replace a portable room heater. Peering inside we can see the glow of the Vacuum Tubes! I showed my son the finger trick, just touching the plastic insulated knob kicked the scope "heartbeat" scale around, sometimes getting a double diamond image. Living dangerously around that cooking hot machine, imagining the vacuum tubes inside sizzling their plates. This is so awesome, the old glowing vacuum tubes and the vector screen work beautiful!

Image Image

Just placing the finger on the plastic knob sets off the strobe! I knew my personality was electrifying. :D

This is definitely a step closer to the Mad Scientist brewing inside of me. I own a vintage VOM, a Plasma Lightening Lamp and now a vintage Vacuum Tube Vector Screen Ocillascope! A tease to maybe myself, at least I have not bought a real Telsa Coil yet!

I'm pretty sure this pen is compatible with it:

$2 is a DAMN good deal for any kind of Wacom. You should buy the pen! Even factoring in the cost of a new pen, it's STILL a great deal.

@John Blade, yes a great controller that has held its value very well. Nice find.

@CRT - Nightmare before Christmas is a surprisingly EXCELLENT game. Has wonderful sprites, an intuitive character control system, and is just a ton of fun watching Jack slaughter the bad guys.

Nope, missed that one. These were in Chicago and a local one in Sandusky, Ohio.

It's a nice lady who is selling her husband stuff that he collect since he was young. She was selling this with a GameCube bundle for 50 dollars. Nothing much to say with the bundle (couple games not too interested on) but this controller got my attention. Ask her if I can buy the controller and she say yes for 5 dollars. So yea, I got it for 5 dollars for it.
