That's my trick too, sleep deprivation. I'm playing games when I should be sleeping, if you know, I were to actually get 8 hours of sleep a night as I'm "supposed to". I do pretty good on 5-6 hours of sleep, but by Friday I'm dragging and quite cranky. Then I recharge during the weekend by actually get 8 hours of sleep Friday and Saturday nights. There's no way in hell I could get by on 3-4 hours of sleep a night though. I would be a cranky monster and probably ruin my marriage. There's studies that have shown some people can legit get by on 2-4 hours of sleep a night, it's actually genetic.

Yes, and I think I passed it on to my daughter. She is 3, and gets more than 3 or 4 hours of sleep, but sleeps less than most toddlers her age. She rarely naps and probably sleeps less than my wife would want to sleep herself.

Gyruss is a really good game. I love classic Konami.

I think that is an absolutely correct deciphering.

I'm going on 37 now, and I've seen this in plenty of people my own age. Basically they just give up on any other hobby other than devouring TV. I think it's because TV takes the least amount of effort to enjoy versus say reading, creating art, or even playing video games for example.
I'm not so sure. For me at least, there just aren't enough hours in the day. I have an intellectually challenging, relatively demanding job that I enjoy, and it keeps me occupied for a large part of the day. I also have a beautiful, intelligent wife and two wonderful children, and I love spending time with all of them. I try to make it the gym for an hour a day, and I also enjoy cooking, reading, watching movies and working on my home (which was built in 1928 and ensures that I always have plenty of projects). I don't really watch sports or television, but I keep a relatively busy social calendar. And, since I live in a relatively large city, I try to take advantage of its resources as much as I can. I nonetheless still managed to get through 60 games last year. Accordingly, for me at least, there just aren't enough hours in the day to do everything I enjoy.

I do agree, however, that a lot of people get very dull as they get older. (It is like the intellectual curiosity has been sucked out of them...)

I also agree that Gyruss is awesome, and anyone who enjoys it should be sure to check ou N2O (PS1).

People keep mentioning kids in such a way that it almost sounds like playing games means you aren't prioritizing social time with them. I for one do my gaming after the rest of my family has gone to sleep, or if they aren't around and I find myself alone at home. My point is, you can be a responsible/loving husband/wife and father/mother and still manage to have significant gaming time.

Also prfsnl_gmr all the responsibilities you mentioned I also share, other than attempting to be social outside immediate family. I don't give a damn about that. I agree owning a house means you always have something to fix/upgrade, an endless source of obligations.

I think Exhuminator is right. I mean, it's not about kids or any particular topic, it's more like the general attitude.

I found out that the Game Club 199X podcast (from Hardcore Gaming 101) is stopping at episode 50. They put out a lot of good ones over the past few years. The one they did on Tie Fighter from November was good.

I've been looking for good retro / collecting themed shows and this was one I was thinking of checking out (Madden 95 ep!) too. Alas.

Kind of annoyed that pistols are so accurate and powerful in most FPS games, and that various automatic weapons are no better than shotguns. A full-sized rifle is pretty darn accurate, and pistols are not outside of a few yards.

Hahah, the Halo 1 pistol takes the cake. I absolutely dominated multiplayer with that.
