It's all relative. It isn't a great comedy against the history of the genre, but it is a good comedy which, in 2013, I'll take. I'd probably give it 3.5 or 4 out of 5, which is a real rarity for the genre these days.

I'd say a 3.5 out of 5 is fair.

Just saw Despicable Me 2 and laughed most of the time. Even stranger than the first one.

First review I came across of Pacific Rim. Not particularly encouraging. Hideo Kojima's endorsement of this means nothing to me.. Will probably watch it anyway.

Kanye West liked it too, though.

I'm interested because GdT hasn't directed a film I didn't enjoy. To my mind, he does comic book/fantasy films better than almost everyone.

Just watched the movie, This is the End, with Seth Rogan, Jonah Hill, James Franco etc.

Very funny movie. Stupid? Yes....funny? Most definitely. Everyone plays a spoof of themselves amidst the biblical rapture as they try to survive the apocalypse. I can not stress the absurdity of the film, leaving the theater asking myself, "How did this movie get made?" Let's break it down shall we?
Exorcisms? Check. Crazy kickass Hermione with an axe? Check. Gimp Channing Tatum? Check. Satan Cock? Check. Backstreet Boys Performance? Check?
My wife and I loved it and it was a very interesting surprise amidst the piles of sequels, remakes and rehashes.

Why why why why why is Oldboy being remade? Just watched the redband trailer as it was linked on a blog I read. Changes are being made. He's imprisoned longer and sees someone from his past so that takes out a huge 'oh shit' moment from the original. I doubt they'll do the hallway scene in one take either. It will be all chopped up and full of special effects. The raw single unedited and unembellished long take is what made it so awesome in the original.

Don't fret too much, Spike Lee is handling it and he has an excellent track record of well made films. It will be different, but not necessarily/automatically worse.

DUMBO

Wish they still made 'em this good. Yes, the Elephant dance scene is still one of the trippiest things you'll ever see, and yes Dumbo's Mother cradling him from inside her crate still gets a tear or two out of me.

So simple, so heartfelt, so perfect.

I watched Dumbo not that long ago too with my kids. They thought the dance was scary, but enjoyed it. I really enjoy that movie, reminds me of my childhood.
