Yep I snuck through the tunnel the first time to try and take out a target for a quest. When I learned the trick to getting past the anomalies, my target moved to the other side, which helped me notice the safer break in the fence along the tracks. On my way back across, found some dead bodies, got a few assault rifles from some dead bodies, took the target out and then took out the bandits wanting the tolls.

Those bandits were tough still, as I had to sneak around and take them out one by one, drawing their attention and using lots of cover to really get the jump on them.

If I wasn't tied to these time limits on these quests I would be spending every second scouring every building I cross. Luckily, I just have two timed quests left to finish and then I am going to go suuuuuppppppppeeeerrrr slow.

Also, only at the end of my playthrough did I realize I could break open crates and containers with my knife to get loot.

The time limited quests aren't worth worrying about. Those are just MMO-style fetch quests without a good reward.

Yeah Popo's right. I still probably got like 20 hours worth out of my STALKER run when I first played it, I kept doing the quests to the point that I was kind of overpowered later on. I went into the game pretty blind though years back, I guess for whatever reason it just took me awhile to realize how pointless the quests were haha. You basically just find items and weapons you need along the way as you progress the story and explore a bit.

Incredible game for sure though. The combat is insanely satisfying and awesome once you get better weapons and the atmosphere was amazing. The story gets pretty bonkers later on in a good way.

Been wanting to replay it recently, I bet it wouldn't take too long to get through without bothering with the filler side quests.

I almost screwed myself in my Desecent playthrough. I was on level 8 with no lives left and sitting at 100/100 after the level 7 boss savaged me (I figured out too late the best way to take care of him without taking too much damage). The problem is the level is full of Vulcan bots in prime ambush positions, and those guys open fire as soon as the door opens. After many tries I managed to get a run where I was able to homing missile most of them from around a corner and I got lucky with a few early shield drops. Level 9 went down pretty easily and now I've got a comfortable amount of extra lives for when the going gets tough again.

I love Call of Duty 2 so far. The American campaign was far different from what I was to expect. Whereas a game like MOH Frontline put you right in the middle of the D-Day landings on Omaha Beach, COD2 puts you in the middle of another American landing at Pointe du Hoc. Reading about it afterwards, that could've been easily just as dangerous trying to climb up these cliffs while being shot at from above. Fortunately the large guns that were originally thought to be there were moved further inland.

I also got F.E.A.R. while that was on sale at GOG. FPS backlog.... growing.....

F.E.A.R. should be moved close to the front of your backlog, if you've never played it before. It's like no other game, in terms of atmosphere.

I wouldn't call it horror or anything, but it does have good atmosphere. Condemned takes it a step further (same devs and vibe).

Yeah, FEAR has a few nice horror moments, especially at the beginning and the end. But some of its levels feel really repetitive. I have mixed feelings on it. When it is great, it's GREAT! But when it isn't, it drags.

Yeah. The office stage is literally probably ~60% of the game or more.

For whatever reason I have a weird fetish for offices and industrial settings in FPS's though, so I don't mind it haha. I was actually kind of disappointed FEAR 2 didn't have another big office section heh.

FEAR 2 has aged really well too I'd say. The level design is arguably way more organic and creative, so that's nice. I still do like the original a little more though, but both are top notch.

FEAR 3... not so much.
