Not that there's much competition...
well...
Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Hyperdimension Neptunia come to mind for me.
Clearly neither of you have played Virtua Tennis 4.

I haven't. Is it that good? Better than the others? I heard about the weird mini games.

Those games are cool for what they are but neither of them really
accomplished anything. For me to declare a game my personal GOTY it has to be something really special. It's looking like Catherine might end up being mine as well, unless Dark Souls really knocks it out of the park and wows me.

Catherine is definitely a GOTY quality game from what I've played so far, but I'd still put Portal 2 above it I think. Catherine gets so damn frustrating sometimes and I don't see it being a game I'd ever want to play again after I beat it while Portal 2 is the sort of the game I could see myself going back to. I do think Catherine is a contender for most original title of the year though and a title that everyone needs to try. I think even if someone doesn't finish it they will still come away from it knowing that they have experienced something unique and special
If I boil it down to just plain old fun factor though, Dishwasher Vampire Smiles is up there and Shadows of the Damned, though I haven't finished it yet, has been a total blast to play so far. It may very well end up being my personal game of the year as its been putting such a huge smile on my face each down I sit down and play it for a while

My GOTY for this year would be Pokemon Black/White or Motorstorm: apocalypse. I usually don't buy games new, but am glad I bought these new. Not like a certain Capcom fighter...
Also, don't forget about games that will be coming out, on my radar are Resistance 3, LoZ: Skyward Sword, and Mario Kart 3ds.

My GOTY this year so far is Ghost Trick for DS, no doubt. Pokemon White is up there too though.

I absolutely loved it. When I started playing, I played for 12 hours straight, and only stopped because it was about 6am and I could barely look at the screen anymore. I finished it the next day, and then my life felt empty

I haven't played a game like that since Smash Bros Brawl came out.
The characters were really likeable, the animation was beautiful and fluid, the puzzle gameplay was fun, and the story, whilst OTT, was full of twists and really kept me addicted to the whole experience. I'd say its one of my favourite games ever.

Batman Arkham City still has a solid chance of blowing away everything else I've played this year when it comes out. In fact, now that I think about it, that may be exactly what happens. I'm also looking forward to playing that Bloodrayne game to see if it can outdo Dishwasher Vampire Smiles for my favorite digital download game of the year(not counting Beyond Good and Evil HD since it's an older game)

Thanks man! I really appreciate this, and am going to pick it up.
