Unfortunately, our last day in Houston is the 26th. We'll be coming back though sometime next year for a brief visit while I have to attend some labs, so maybe that will be an opportunity.

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
I tried to play D&D on pen and paper, I just couldn't get into it. It's not that I think it's "nerdy" or anything. Because I still play D&D video games, like crazy. And I used to love this D&D licensed board game called "Dungeon!" that my dad had when I was a kid.
My buddy tried to get me to start a character. After like 2-3 hours of setting up a character and party, and setting up the backstory, I was ready to move on to something else.
Seems like if I was going to do LARP, though, then why not just take a real sword-fighting class, instead?

I'm guessing like others were suggesting, it's more about the social aspect and community. Which, yeah you could also get by doing boxing or whatever else instead too. Dunno?
Okay, so do razors just kind of die down after awhile? I'm guessing so like most things. I think I'm on my third one, some Norelco H09 or whatever. I've felt like it's kind of sucked for a long time now, but damn these can be expensive. But at this point yeah, even with fresh new blades, I'm not very satisfied.
I'm in that annoying zone of needing to shave everyday, I could probably do a stalker mustache but that's it. Other than that it's just the nasty random fuzz on my chin and around. My dad is the same way but let's it grow out as much as he can sometimes, and everyone just jokes about how bad it looks.
I'm already pale as it is and it does grow fast, weirdly enough. I usually get that 6 o clock shadow... just above my lip. lol, so annoying.

I just flat out quit shaving my sideburns once I could grow them well enough to keep them. They still aren't all that impressive, but it keeps me from having to shave them every day.
Martial Industrial is a genre. It interests me, if nothing else. Although, the prevalence of extremist idealism and Nazism in the genre is off putting. I've always liked war music and similar stuff. I wonder if there is Celtic Martial Industrial? Hmm.

I've wanted to experiment with doing a bit of industrial stuff myself. Maybe one day I'll get off my ass and find some Roland 808 vsti clones.

Yeah, like Laibach. Although they are goofy as all get out. The vocals are just silly.

I never really got that vibe, but I only ever really listened to WAT and a bit of the debut.Forlorn Drifter wrote:Yeah, like Laibach. Although they are goofy as all get out. The vocals are just silly.
That and I have a pretty high tolerance for "silliness" anyway.

I can do certain types of silliness, but silly vocals I can't handle. I'll listen to any goofy ass song about saving the princess from the monkey men of the north in the deathly winter in the kingdom of the despicable death wizard/space elephant man Gazuul the XVII while riding a motorcycle made from the bones of my enemies, but I can do it if the guy sounds like an overly drunk East-European man.AppleQueso wrote:I never really got that vibe, but I only ever really listened to WAT and a bit of the debut.Forlorn Drifter wrote:Yeah, like Laibach. Re: Random Thoughts Thread
We should have Vikings' Day instead of Columbus Day. They were the first Europeans to America. Hell, Columbus thought he was in India.
Sounds like a holiday I could get behind. Drink some ale, eat some roasted meat, listen to some Amon Amarth and Amorphis, and read some Thor comics.
But I guess I should thank ole Chris for a day off of work! Happy Columbus Day!

I have no idea how much compression, but Color Caves is an album on a NES cart:AppleQueso wrote:You know the NES has a DPCM channel... I wonder how heavily you'd have to compress a song to get it to fit on say, a standard 32kb NES cart.

Look up Boffer groups in your area. Some will have introductory days where they will let you borrow weapons (except bows) and teach you the ropes. Making a sword for Boffer is super easy aswell, unless you want something pretty then it is a pain.Forlorn Drifter wrote:Well, part of what looks interesting to me about LARP (I guess that would be the Nero type) is the weapons and armor and actual fighting. I like fighting and roughhousing and all that stuff, and I can get really into it in the right mindset. Go totally Conan on some dudes.
LARPing is alot cheaper and safer. Though if you want to learn how to really sword fight, look up the Society for Creative AnachronismBurningDoom wrote:Seems like if I was going to do LARP, though, then why not just take a real sword-fighting class, instead?
I have only played in a LARP once, but I know Sam Chupp (who was a founder of White Wolf) and have worked with the groups for many years getting them setup.
