People still bother with that site? It's been such a well known and popular site for years (and as a result, filled with morons) that I don't really see the point in browsing it, if most of the discussion is (besides porn) the mundane stuff you see on Facebook and Myspace, what's the point?
Plus any site that's as immensely popular has the same problem: discussions and comments drown in the sea posts and there's just simply too much traffic.

Time wasting. It's popular, so there's an endless stream of content. Much of the content is utter crap, but every now and again it's entertaining, if only in a train wreck sort of way. Have talked to a handful of people from there via email and they've provided varying levels of entertainment for varying amounts of time. Actually believe it or not met my current girlfriend from 4chan (I know, I know... she's actually female though!) and she's the most compatible girl I've ever dated.

But mostly it's just a time waster to help me get tired before bed in the morning.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!
Cheat sheet of my collection, always looking to increase it. 405/677 licensed games, 46/"95" unlicensed

Boards like /m/, /sci/, /jp/, or /an/ aren't "mundane stuff on facebook" or a sea of posts at all. Threads on slower boards can last for over a week. Again, this is just the popular boards like /b/ or porn boards that most people seem to think are the only thing 4chan is composed of.

Your post makes it seem like you have probably spent little to no time actually browsing the site, and are just commenting based on what you have heard.

Oh wow, a whole week. I'm used to sites where it takes 2+ years for a thread to disappear, so I'm not really convinced by your argument.

I've never held the site in very high regard, but atleast before 2008 there were some interesting threads because a lot higher percentage of the userbase was internet savy (adhered to unwritten rules and lurked long enough to learn the "local culture" before they started posting so they wouldn't be verbally chastised) and "misfits" (which made the site more interesting). Or like some one else put it:

I mostly "liked" the site for reading weird and interesting random conversations, while using much less popular and visited sites for participating on in-depth discussions about particular topics like video games, so if you like talking about video games there, maybe it suits your needs.

BoringSupreez wrote:Wow. Just wow. One 4chan user stalked another user named UTV for a few months and made a 97-page public document recording everything. Early on:
22nd August 2013
Today carried along on much the same vein as the 21st. UTV was witty, argumentative, and intelligent all at once. There wasn’t quite a thread to match the 180th but 183 was fantastic, and there were a good number of long UTV posts to give me something to read now and forever. He made many valid points about the abilities and value of Christian Benteke, many of which I agreed with as I always do when UTV makes his points as they are pretty much certain to be intelligent and correct. One anon attempted to give UTV sass about his hilarious ability to attribute the wrong nouns to things but he ignored the snows of doubt and ploughed on as he always does, and I am becoming increasingly certain with each and every passing day that UTV is not going to leave. As we get closer to 14 being released, UTV is less likely to leave. (Ironic really as when I was getting closer to the age of 14 my friends all became closer to leaving for reasons I still do not understand.) I look onwards to tomorrow with great anticipation.
As UTV understandably became more fed up with being stalked:
15th September 2013
I sit here at 23.18pm.
UTV has only posted once today
It is days like these where I wonder why I do this for us. Why I do this. I wonder if he cares. If we were a married couple then he would have been out all night and returned with the smell of intercourse on his Villa shirt and lipstick and vaginal semen staining his clothes.

I feel sick
Such mental sickness is awful, yet so fascinating to spectate on.
I think this is all fake, and the person behind it is doing some weird internet experiment to see how people will react to it. Maybe trying to get fame or something...

That's very possible. Pretty likely even.

On 4chan (or the internet in general) it can be pretty hard to tell what's real and what's just an elaborate hoax.

How would a thread last for 2 years on an imageboard with a thread limit? Maybe if like 3 people were using it.

Imageboards and a forum like this are two completely different things.

More like userbase of 3000-5000 people+good moderators.

Depends on the imageboard, but the only major difference between the two is that on an imageboard users are anonymous and there's no registration. With increasing amount of people (on popular, well known boards) using names/tripcodes, sharing personal information&pictures and openly discussing about imageboards outside imageboards (like this ), the difference between the two is diminishing. With or with out pseudonyms, both mediums are mostly based on the idea of discussing different topics and sharing information with like minded strangers.

If there was zero theft, I wonder how cheap stuff at Wal-Mart would really be.
