WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
Re: WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
If anything at least this will draw more imports into the country even if it's just a few. Would be nice to see some more Super Famicom stuff out there in the wild.

Is there a reason for that?fastbilly1 wrote:In some cases the imports go for more than the domestics - look at Wild Guns for example.Ack wrote:Hmm, SFC import prices have been rising lately. I wonder if this will cause it to continue shooting up and possibly relieve some of the inflated prices on the domestic SNES side, as people go for the cheaper option but make it more expensive.DonSilvestre wrote:FWIW, I had never considered importing anything before today and was close to getting on the repro train, now I'm scheming how I can fit a bunch of SFC imports into my budget this month.

OH HELL YES. The IPS patching on this thing is awesome, just tested Japanese to English translations for Akumajou Densetsu (Castlevania 3), Hello Kitty World, Yume Penguin, and Fire Emblem Gaiden all for Famicom. They all work perfectly. Also tried the new Final Fantasy V patch for the GBA which restores the Super Famicom sound. Though it does disable the fast booting, it still works perfectly. This is AMAZING!

See now that's what I"m talking about. I've got mostly Famicom and GBA Japanese stuff so to see a couple Konami games there listed I own working out great that's just fantastic. I'll have to get around to trying it some time in the future.

Oh wow there is a Mother IPS patch... For the Mother 1+2 GBA cart. Awesome. Another one I can test when I have the time.
The ability to patch games has increased my appreciation for the Retron 5 tenfold. Hell, I can't remember the last time I was this excited about retro gaming.
I do wonder how this will affect the prices of imports though. I'm not entirely sure how popular the Retron 5 and import games truly are. I may pick up the last few Fami/Super Fami RPGs on my wishlist just in case prices start to rise.

I wonder if it will support UPS patches for Mother 3?

This translation patching is a neat feature. I don't really care for RPGs, so it has little direct effect on me. I just think it's neat that hyperkin is going so far to add value to the product. Maybe I have been too critical of Hyperkin in the past. I may just buy myself a Retron5 someday.

Yeah with this I may just have to go and buy what I can from super fami and gba back to the originals and even the sega stuff we didn't get just to prepare myself for when retrons go back on sale. I'm not paying more than retail (at least not as much as some want for it with shipping) just to get one right now...not entirely desperate since I have other games to play right now

I may have jumped the gun a bit...
I got too excited and bought a bunch of Super Famicom games without researching if they had translation patches or not. Luckily they were only a few bucks a cart unlike their English counterparts.
I found a few patches for Chrono Trigger and Mother 2, but I'm not sure if they'll actually work. I'll have to wait until the end of the month before I can try them out. I decided to pick up Super Mario RPG as well, but I can't find any sort of English translation patch. The other games have "true" or "uncensored" translations, but I guess everybody was okay with how SMRPG's translation was handled.
Ah, oh well. In any case I'll have some new games to practice my Japanese with. It's just too bad that I won't be able to share the experience with others.

I just ordered Bahumat Lagoon (forgive me if I misspelled it) to try out the translation patch on it. The Super Famicom Tales game seems to be around 20 buck also, may just go with the translated GBA port. Unless someone has it way cheaper.
Any suggestions for other games that never got a release over here in any form that are worth playing a patched import?
