Other than being a collector, what reason do you have for buying hard copies of retro games? By retro I mean games that can easily be emulated. I've been wanting to ask this for a while.
It's the same as pirating games for me or buying a bulk of them super cheap on steam or indie game bundle. Even if I really like the game, with nothing to restrict my available options, I never seem to be able to get down and beat a game.
Heck all of the games I beat as roms was back when I had a PSTN connection and it took me 7 hours to download a 6.5 MB rom of Super Mario 64

It's the crown avatar I bet
Maybe that...... Plus does Bahrain use PAL?
We are a PAL country but there are no real rules, you can find NTSC. I always buy the American product because I know it usually has the better support and earlier releases (except the Japanese stuff). Nothing is really released for the local market here... for example if you got RROD, you can bash your head into a wall and nobody is going to repair that console for you. The solution is to buy another.
I also forgot that something such as SECAM existed... I think I last heard of this when I was setting up my snes in '95 or something like that. Can't we all just agree on one standard and one electricity output over this 240/120v thing.

We're still struggling to get all countries on the metric system (I'm looking at you America) which would actually benefit their economies. We're a long way from convincing countries to change socket outputs and shape.
And let's not mention getting some countries to drive on the right side of the street

That's a good question. I almost always pirate my retro PC games, and after I've beaten them and found them enjoyable, I put them on my list of games to buy (physical copy). Not on C64/Amiga/Atari ST though, they're like consoles in that regards. With console games it different. I guess to some extent it is that really why would I waste my time on an Atari Jaguar emulator when I could at the same time be playing PC games or better games on other emulators. But when you play on the actual console, you've gotta be content with what you've got. Though I've tried to limit buying crappy old games and stick to more expensive and high quality ones. Takes less space and usually means that I have a higher chance of finishing the game if I buy less games and spend more money on individual games
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

oooh boy. Don't ever go to southern Europe mate. A restaurant is the same as a tavern when it comes to noise levels
Maybe the strong coffee across the water?

You listen to an mp3 player in a classy restaurant? Or in any restaurant period?
Weird. That's as bad as shouting in a joint.
I blame it on the numbed iPod ears and Cell Phones users "Can you hear me now".

For me, it's a personal decision. I know stealing is wrong, even if it is from a rich corporation. So I don't do it.
I do emulate games I have legitmate bought copies of, though, and I do emulate for fan-hacks.
