Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
Not really a traditional "find" per se, but I don't know where else this would go.
Recently I've taken up a pretty big project: taking all the stickers off my collection. I've never touched any of them from the beginning so pretty much everything I've ever bought used at a game store had to be worked on. Well today I came to the end: my Game Boy games, most of which I bought long, long ago. I grabbed my copy of Link's Awakening DX, which I bought probably 12 years ago at a Gamestop or something. Started peeling and noticed something odd; this is what I found:

In case you can't see it, it says: Not For Resale, Demo Game Only, Property of Nintendo. Now obviously I feel terrible for partly tearing this up, but to be honest I probably would've never discovered it otherwise; I have no familiarity with these things and didn't know what to look for. In retrospect you can see the O in Nintendo, but live and learn. I probably won't touch it any further; if you can see there's one of those nasty pink security things which are a real ***** to take off, I'd probably end up destroying the sticker. I don't know how common these things are, or if I've ruined any potential value this may have had; I was hoping you guys could help me on that. But I just think it's cool that this game that I've loved since my childhood can still manage to surprise me.

Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
You're half right. Changing the caps should solve the sound and screen problems. However there is no upgrade for the screen since Sega used a rather video output for the Game Gear which does not work with other screens. I guess it should be possible to build a converter circuit but I doubt it would fit inside. On the other hand the Nomad's screen can be replaced without too much hassle.Ziggy587 wrote:I'm not really up on GG stuff, but from what I remember reading... You can upgrade to a newer LCD screen that not only looks better, but IIRC uses less power thus extending battery life. As for the sound, IIRC, the GGs had a huge problem with the capacitors. I think that's what the audio issue is. People recap the entire GG to fix the problem.Cody_D165 wrote:Sadly the Game Gear has a bad screen and no sound whatsoever. I have no experience with repairs or anything so oh well.
If I'm off base, I'm sure some one will correct me.

Great Story! Can you post a clear pic of the front label and a shot of the startup screen? Might be different from the official release.Nitman99 wrote:Not really a traditional "find" per se, but I don't know where else this would go.

Ooor maybe it's just one of those carts used for in-store gameplay for people to try out. You know, how Gamestop has all those consoles set up with demos in them? I'm not sure if they did that back when the GB was alive, but if they did, this would fit the bill.CRTGAMER wrote:Great Story! It must have been something like this: http://www.nintendemos.com/?id=game&sys ... me=zeldadxNitman99 wrote: In case you can't see it, it says: Not For Resale, Demo Game Only, Property of Nintendo.

a thread about one: http://nintendoage.com/forum/messagevie ... adid=55910

So yeah, it seems like it was a legit demo cart, probably for in-store promotion as was suggested. A cool little find.

Sure thing.CRTGAMER wrote:Great Story! Can you post a clear pic of the front label and a shot of the startup screen? Might be different from the official release.

As far as I can tell it's identical to the retail release aside from the sticker on the back. Doesn't have any time limits or content restrictions. Then again, it's the only version of Link's Awakening I've ever known, so maybe I'm not the one to ask.
Also:

Here's the file select screen. The top two are mine, the bottom was there when I bought it. I don't remember if there were any I deleted. Now, I could be reading too much into it and the bottom file could just belong to the previous owner, but I figured I'd post it in case in belonged to any known retailer.

Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
Googled it, found nothing. If my theory about it being for an in-store demo is correct, it's probably just random gibberish a kid rammed in. I remember back on Pokemon Gold when I named my Totodile something along the lines of "KLMNXTHMNH"
