Oops, I forgot to include that stuff in my final draft. I'm going to blame the game being so blahhhh that I accidentally left it out

Just out of curiosity, how long does it take you to put a video together? Part of me would love to do some of my own... but at the same time, I don't know if my speaking voice is really good enough for this kind of stuff. You do an excellent job with your delivery!

For just one game, it goes like this:

1, blind playthrough and record some footage
2, save-state playthrough and record most footage
3, write 1st draft and research Hardcore Gaming, Racketboy, Wikipedia, whatever
4, re-write
5, record voiceover
6, audio editing (usually takes a few hours)
7, video editing

All this is spread out over maybe 2-3 hours every night. Depending on the game, a video can be wrapped up in a couple days.

I believe you've shared this in the past, but what are you using to record footage? And what microphone?

I have attempted to make some gaming videos (never uploaded) and holy shit was it labor intensive.

You have the right idea just showing game footage with a voice-over. Creating an AVGN-style of video with alternating game footage and acting bits takes an absolutely insane amount of time.

Elgato Game Capture HD (this thing) and the Retron 5, or the Snes9x 1.53 emulator with save states. The mic is a USB Audio-Technica (this thing). Edit audio with Adobe Audition (which used to be Cool Edit) and video with Sony Vegas.

Yeah, I don't do any of that extra stuff because I literally have no idea how to do any of it. Even getting the lighting right when using a webcam is tricky.

Tecmo. Freaking. Super Bowl.

I played the mess out of this game. I wasn't a big sports guy growing up, until I played this game. This game quite literally piqued my interest in football.

Anyway, I know I've said it before, but I beat this with every single team in the game. I was always chipping away at it, trying to set personal records and such. I put up some crazy numbers.

Also, Bo Jackson was certainly good in the game, but he's not totally unstoppable. You can see that the defense gets quite fast when in catch-up mode, so he can't outrun them. But he's certainly fast enough to make dodging them a lot easier, and you can see it in the video.

Another amazing back in the game was Christian "The Nigerian Nightmare" Okoye. Pretty fast (50 speed rating), and the highest default hitting power in the game. In other words, he was a fast fullback. Go look at the video for him! It's ridiculous to watch him popcorn guys all over the place.

One annoying thing about the game is that the AI gets absolutely ridiculous as the season and playoffs progress. The speed and power of the players gets amped up well beyond their normal values. Seriously, if the CPU is controlling Bo and he gets past you, he's taking it to the house. You really have to know how to stuff guys in the backfield or you're gonna be hurting. In that way, it actually becomes more like an NFL game, because there are guys that, if they get behind you, there's no catching them.

Great vid. And thanks for mentioning the Kia commercial! I cannot express how ecstatic I am when that commercial comes on. Every single time. So awesome. (Not gonna get me to buy a Kia, but still!)

Tell me about it! They've actually got slightly more to work with on the offensive side of the ball than the Patriots, but the defense is atrocious.

Also, interesting bug in the game: Passing Accuracy does nothing. Nothing! The stat it's supposed to tie to is actually connected to Pass Control. I think Accuracy was supposed to be ball placement, and Control how catchable the ball is, but they just both got lumped in together.

In other words, if you've ever wondered why John Elway sucks in this game, now you know.
