Re: PC build thread
Nah. I am currently playing with textures, just nothing volumetric - fog and water become walls. My PSU should hold for the 960, if not I have a kw one on hand.
Shed should come in significantly under budget, so the build should happen after Memorial Day.

Re: PC build thread
That's very similar to what I use. It should be a good PC build.

2 quick points / my 2 cents.fastbilly1 wrote:Finally upgrading my 9600gt to a 960 gtx. Should come in this Saturday. Soon my GPU will have as much RAM as my pc.
This is an interim upgrade. Once we rebuild our shed, I get to build a new pc with the left over money.
Currently eying a:
i5 6600k
16gigs of DDR 4
Gigabyte GA-H110MA
256gig SSD
Point 1
I would not bother shelling out for a K series (with unlocked multipliers) if you do not plan to overclock, for which you will need a Z170 chipset motherboard, the H110 chipset is unable to overclock. You are shelling out for a feature you will be unable to use, I would either drop back to the i5-6500 / 6600, if you don't plan to overclock / want to get a H110 board, or go with a Z170 motherboard.
Point 2
If you are comfortable flashing bios files and installing an aftermarket cooler, you can overclock via the blck on skylake using certain motherboards, even without the K series (as they are not relying on the unlocked multiplier to overclock). I recently picked up a i5 6400 and have it running at 4.6Ghz. Something to think about, if it is an option you are interested I can help out via PM.

Re: PC build thread
Good points emwearz. My choice on the 6600k/H110ma was because I found a bundle for both for $250. I figure around Memorial day a similar sale will pop back up.
I have no fear of bios upgrades, aftermarket coolers, or any other standard OC procedures. I use to run a Athlon XP 1800, a 1.6ghz chip, at 2.2 ghz stable on air in a mini ITX case. That said, I typically dont OC anymore until the end of the life. So going with a 6600 instead of a 6600k should save me some cash. But the idea of upgrading from my Q6600 to a i5-6600 is very funny to me though.

Re: PC build thread
so my wife bought me this standing desk:
which I assembled today and is now my arcade stand. It... is pretty great. Sturdy, good height, and looks classy as opposed to my shitty makeshift setup. We played Dive Kick and Double Dragon Neon today on it and it was super comfy.
For now it has a meh monitor on it. A 17" or 19" Dell I had lying around. But, soon it will have my 23" Acer on it...
For a while I've been contemplating a new monitor for my main rig. I had a list of four things I wanted, but I felt like I'd have to sacrifice 1 or 2 in order to stay within my budget. I wanted it to be 27", 144hz, 2560 x 1440 and have G-Sync. A tall order if I hoped to stay under $400, right? Well, I stumbled upon a Best Buy refurb for an Acer XB270HU bprz for $396. I had $115 in BB giftcards to boot. So I paid under $300 out of pocket. It has all four of those things. It won't be here until the 23rd cuz I didn't want to pay extra for shipping. But I'm very excited. Especially since Amazon has it listed new as $800 (or on sale for $700 right now).
Anyway, new game room pics will finally be in order once the new monitor arrives.

I think I'm gonna have to get one of these :/noiseredux wrote:hey isiolia, GTX 1070 and 1080 have a release date of June 10th.

Re: PC build thread
I am looking forward to real world benchmarks by third parties, the performance by Nvidia seems a little unrealistic.
Also look forward to what AMD are firing back with.

Re: PC build thread
I'm pumped about that GTX 1080. Planning to pre-order and hopefully have it on release day (May 27).
Is it worth picking up a 4K monitor yet?
