Every once in a while I see someone try and call Zimmerman a "hero." Absolute best case scenario he was a man who used poor judgment and instigated a fight that ultimately lead to him shooting an unarmed teenager in self defense. There's nothing "heroic" about anything he's done, period.
That said, as a general rule I don't like media circus court cases.
Really, this is the sad truth. I understand his frustrations: his neighborhood had experienced a spike in crime, he'd already come across African American kids prowling around houses, and when he had contacted the police during that time, they arrived too late to do anything. But he gave into it, and the end result was an innocent teenager getting killed. Regardless of whether he instigated a fight or merely acted in self-defense, it shouldn't have happened. I feel bad for Zimmerman because he's been tried by the media. But I also feel bad for Martin and his family.

Woah! Serious topic. I haven't kept up with this case. Is Zimmerman losing or winning or what? Last time I watched anything on it, Zimmerman was pretty close to being convicted... if I remember correctly. That was a while ago though. Anyone bring me up to speed please?

Totally agree with this. Going by the legal definitions, even if he's not technically guilty of second degree murder, at the very least he's guilty of criminally negligent homicide and ought to be held accountable.
I'm not a glitch, I just have pixlexia.

Actually, the trial only just started last week. As for whether Zimmerman is winning or losing, I couldn't say. The crux of the decision will likely come down to whether he committed self defense or murder. If he committed self defense, I think Florida's Stand Your Ground law has already been ruled out, so negligent homicide will likely still apply. If he is found to have committed second degree murder, then he's found guilty of that.
We don't know that yet. Unarmed, yes, but all eyewitnesses say they saw Trayvon (or a black man in a hoodie) on top of Zimmerman, throwing multiple punches (from NPR).

It boils down to who was the aggressor.
I meant innocent before the altercation took place between them. Martin wasn't in the process of committing a robbery.
