Anyone see that Hardcore Gaming 101 video where they visit the Westone dudes? One of the developers is handed a ZX Spectrum port of Wonder Boy, and he looks at it in a puzzled way - apparently he didn't know it existed until then. Kinda mind-blowing.
(oh and it's pronounced "Zed-Ex Spectrum"??????? My whole life is a lie.)

"Zed" is how Brits pronounce Z. So, yeah, since Sinclair is in the UK, that's how it'd be pronounced. Just like how regardless of where you live, it's pronounced "Zee Zee Top."

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Utterly convinced Americans only call it 'zee' so they could make the alphabet song rhyme on Sesame Street.
It's the same reason they cram LMNOP into one quick burst 'elemenopee' in the same song and ended up butchering the Twinkle Twinkle Little Star theme (which would have had exactly the right amount of syllables by my working!) - It should reach 'N' at that point, but damn it, N doesn't rhyme with G. I guess they decided 'Nee' sounded stupid.

Sadly, that's probably the real reason.alienjesus wrote:Utterly convinced Americans only call it 'zee' so they could make the alphabet song rhyme on Sesame Street.

Actually I have a friend whose last name is "Zee." No thanks, I quite like him ending the alphabet.marlowe221 wrote:Sadly, that's probably the real reason.alienjesus wrote:Utterly convinced Americans only call it 'zee' so they could make the alphabet song rhyme on Sesame Street.

What I love is, because of this, a couple of my children were confused that LMNOP wasn't one letter for awhile.alienjesus wrote:Utterly convinced Americans only call it 'zee' so they could make the alphabet song rhyme on Sesame Street.

My understanding was the Zee pronunciation was rooted in the same phonate as Bee or Cee where many of the letters in the English Alphabet have the ee sound added to them for pronunciation.
Zed is closer to the Greek Zeta which is where the letter comes from. So it is probably right, but Zed Zed Top just sounds funny. Like how the guy named Beard has a Mustache and the Bassist cousin sells Propane.
