Yea most people back then didnt smile because after the Vietnam war, most people didnt have cameras. To get your picture taking you had to hire a professional so when those rare moments happen and you could afford to get your picture taking, you had to be serious.

No i didnt my uncle did though, I was born years later when the Khmer Rouge and Chinese got defeated and Vietnam was occuppying Cambodia.

^ Yea we did during the Khmer Rouge movement, because alot of Vientamese was settling in Cambodia. But after the Khmer Rouge defeat they kinda worked together and try to stop any war from happening again.

As of today the the countries are actually good neighbors and majority are actually happy that the Vietnamese came in because the Khmer Rouge were ruthless towards their own people.

They killed many to create a pure breed nation, and many Khmers die because of the confusing of wether they are mixed blood with Vietnamese or what not.

Many Camps throughout the country that have similiar image to this.



Most were interogated and had to confess that were against the state or couldnt prove several generation down that they were pure Cambodian Blood.
