How about not a 2 meg animated avatar.

Why? Do you not like Aziz?

I can't speculate about Hobie's feelings on Aziz. But he said why he had a problem with it.

"2 meg animated". Its a big file.

Its generally agreed among everyone not to use large animated gifs in avatars and posts, as a consideration to anyone, including some members, who have slower connections and bandwidth limits. It also helps anyone who uses the mobile version of the site. Granted, the avatars and signatures aren't a factor on mobile, but gifs in posts are.

Certain threads, like the image dump, are a confined exception.

Its just something to keep in mind for everyone's convenience.

You might be able to compress your avatar, or simply find a smaller version, and still be able to use it.

Also, if you're looking at the animated sprites in my signature and thinking "where does this jerk get off?", which is understandable, I'll point out that the two of them combined are less than 8 kilobytes.

 No, that's not the case. Whats a reasonable size? Never mind. It just wouldn't compress.

Ah, that I'm not 100% sure of I'm afraid. Sorry, maybe Hobie can say what a good guidelines is.

In the meantime, if you really want to use Aziz, you might try this one. Its significantly smaller than your old one at just under 300kb. I don't know if that's "small enough", but its something.

Nah, I don't want to lag other peoples connections. Thank you for the effort though. :)

How can you stay on the net for so long? After about 3-4 hours I feel dizzy from looking at any screen either internet or TV. I feel restless and unable to concentrate any more.
I wish 5 hours of sleep was enough for me too. I usually need 8-9 at least...

As for things being repaired, its simple. Its called capitalism. Companies used to build stuff to last, to make more sales they started making things not to last. Computer devices are made sure to die with updated power hogging software . Electronic devices are made irreparable like an iphone that has a built in battery , or they use cheap material that will start to break after couple of years. I noticed this mostly in cars. Cars used to last such a long time , today a 12-15 year old car will be dangerous to drive...generally speaking.

I used to be the kind of guy who takes care of stuff and try to make it last forever, but after I noticed manufacturers made stuff built to break I just gave up. It is so much more convenient to just buy a new thing and be worry free than having to constantly visit the repair shop.

What amazes me, that shoes repair shops still exist!
