Yup, soil is nutritious. I wash them lightly but I don't peel them. Certain mushrooms are also good sources of B-12. B-12 is rare in non-animal products but it certainly isn't non-existent. If it were, how would herbivores survive? All mammals require the same vitamins and minerals that humans do to survive, in different quantites perhaps but all of them are essential for all mammalian life. So if Vitamin B-12 could only be found in meat, all life would be carnivorous.
