I didn't like Mario 64. A travesty, I know. Mario Sunshine was too hard and drawn out for me to enjoy as well - good game, but not for me.
So you can imagine that I did not buy into the hype about Mario Galaxy being so amazing - I think 'one of the greatest games ever' is a phrase that has been bandied about. But when I saw it on sale I decided to take a chance on it; in a worst case scenario I could easily sell it since the game commanded a pretty decent resale value. But then it sat on my shelf till last week.
This has been one of the greatest weeks of gaming in my life.
The game is pure fun, bottled up under high pressure. The bite sized levels? The sheer variety? The constant stream of progress in the game? The graphics, the gameplay, the difficulty level, the story - all were perfect, absolutely perfect. I would own a Wii just to be able to play this game.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Agreed - the SMG games are probably the biggest highlight of the system, with SMG2 even surpassing the first. Come to think of it, I am not sure there is a first-party Nintendo game I have enjoyed more since the 16-bit days.

Batman: Arkham Asylum - PS3
Star Wars: Shadow of the Empire - N64
Bulletstorm - 360
Mortal Kombat (new one) - PS3
Uncharted 2: Among Theives - PS3
Demon's Souls - PS3
Duke Nukem Forever - 360

Sonic the Hedgehog - Genesis
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - Genesis
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - N64
Assassin's Creed - 360
Red Dead Redemption - 360
Perfect example of a good game with a bad ending. I won't spoil it for those who haven't played it, but the ending sucks. Everything else is great, and I think that I'm finally starting to like sandbox games.

Get out while you've still got a decent opinion of the genre.

Seriously? I've heard it praised a lot for its graphical prowess, truly heralding in a new gen in the regard. As an actual game though, from what I've played, and the consensus amongst those I've spoken with, is that it's a fine game, but it's been done and done better in the past, ripping a lot of the charm and surreal aspects out of the series in favour of grit and realism, becoming less of a game for it. Ballad of Gay Tony on the other hand, is supposed to reintroduce a lot of what GTA4 is missing, more in line with the typical absurdity the GTA series is known for in the sandbox era.

Re: Games Beaten : 2011
So I beat "I Have No Mouth, And I Must Scream" yesterday. It was really good BUT it's definetely flawed, the animations are clunky, the game's puzzles are incredibly hard, the morality system is strange to say the least (I accidentally pushed a button that got many little animals in a cage killed, what can you do to redeem yourself? Wipe your hands with a tablecloth to clean the "metaphorical blood" off your hands
) and it's hard to know what you need to do to trigger the scripts throughout the game.
Now for the plot, it's a Post-apocalyptic sci-fi Salo, need I say more?
It haves a fantastic plot, the voice acting is excellent (Harlan Ellison is great as the over-enthusiastic AM, the villain of the game), the entire game is depressing and bleak throughout the whole thing and it's incredibly worthwhile just because of the plot which beats the short story IMO.

Reviewers fall all over themselves to praise Rockstar's games, but in truth I haven't enjoyed any of their console titles since Vice City. GTAIV and Red Dead Redemption I found to especially bloated and boring.
I will say that I picked up Chinatown Wars recently for the PSP and have found that to be enjoyable so far.

Can I answer too? I thought it had a great premise. I so wanted to play in sandbox put out for me. But the time limits killed all that potential, IMO. It seemed I was always racing from place to place to get where I needed, or even if I was just messing around I had to get back to the dorm by certain time for curfew.
