Well, since you have a PS3, have you tried the Arkham games yet? Arkham Asylum offers a good mix of combat and stealth gameplay that you'd probably enjoy. Crysis uses a lot of stealth elements, but as an FPS fan, I didn't care much for the gunplay. But The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena might be up your alley(and it includes Escape from Butcher Bay). Oh, and there is always the Assassin's Creed series, as well as some stealth elements to games like the Uncharted series.

Batman's good, but I burnt myself out on them before. Riddick sounds up my alley.

I might just have to play with Hitman more to get a feel. My biggest issue, currently, is the amount of just sitting around and waiting pointlessly.

Ah, haha, see, that is how most stealth games play. You have to be willing to take risks but also be exceedingly patient. It's not pointless waiting, it's making sure your prey arrange themselves in such a way that you can easily slip past unnoticed. I've sat for hours before watching and analyzing movement patterns in these games. Once you get them memorized, things go much faster of course, but you have to be willing to get yourself through inch by inch if necessary.

Thus far all the stealth game mentioned have been 3D games (which makes sense being that "stealth" as a genre really took off at the same time as 3D gaming (ala MGS in my opinion)). But ... one of my favorite stealth games is Mark of the Ninja. I know it's fairly ubiquitous these days, but if you've somehow not played it yet, it really is awesome and can generally be had for a song when it goes on sale. While most other ninja games are simply action games dressed in ninja pajamas, for me Mark of the Ninja really captured a certain "ninja feeling". Hard to describe but you know it when you see it.

I'll also say that depending on the day, I sometimes actually prefer Splinter Cell to MGS (and I'm a huge MGS fan). Splinter Cell succeeds on the basis of it's simplicity. It's just a straight up tactical espionage thriller rather than a whacked out combination of stealth and drawn out soliloquies buried under layers of sub-text and metaphor. Sometimes ya just want to play a game ya know?

Gah, for some reason I thought this had gotten a PSN release ... before I realized it was a product of Microsoft Studios. All the same I wouldn't be surprised if a low powered laptop could actually handle the tech specs on this one.

Its not so much getting to know routes or anything like that that I find bothersome. For example, in Curtain Draws, you have to wait ages at times to replace the fake pistol.

I ended up just shooting both guys with the sniper rifle from above. I might have managed silent assassin if I hadn't missed one of my shots, but I can't be sure. I think that is what bothers me most, how arbitrary the ratings seem when you don't have a note by note way of realizing what does and doesn't cause issues. With Absolution's system, I knew I had to make a certain score, and I knew what hurt my score, and how much.

Meh, I just want a stealth game where my time is not spent waiting in a closet for 10 minutes so I can screw up and have to start the whole level over again.

If you love Dishonored then I'd highly recommend DX:HR.

Deus Ex Human Revolution is one of my favorites among PC games from the last 5 or 6 years. It is really fantastic the options they give you for different play styles.

A talented programmer has teamed up with a reliable translator over at PCE/FX and they're translating Xanadu II and I for PC Engine. They are considering re-dubbing the lines, too. I'm hyped for this.

^ That's cool. I have heard murmurs about that for some time. There exists at least one decent walkthrough for part 2, so it is somewhat playable without knowing Japanese. I know just enough to get through both LoX games.

If you really wanna be hardcore play the original Xanadu sometime.
