Yeah. I love WayForward. It makes great games. (A Boy and His Blob (Wii) is, IMO, one of the best games of its generation.)

But what about Fifty Shades of Gradius?
Dude, come on. There's no sex in Gradius.
There is when Konami releases the new erotic pachinko machine.

The lack of sex in Gradius was addressed by the seminal classic of Eastern gameworkship Sexy Parodius.

By the way, I love how the "-us" termination became a genre staple

Ya know, after the initial wave of "clones" (Neutopia, Golden Axe Warrior, Rolan's Curse) there really aren't that many Zelda-esque games developed in Japan. Most superficially similar titles are in actuality action-RPGs with an XP/leveling system which makes them a different beast altogether.

For recent Zelda-ish games from Japan I can think of 3D Dot Game Heroes, Okami (and its sequel), but then I come up short.

I was gonna say Star Fox Adventures, but I guess Rare is a British Developer.

How about...Alundra, Alundra 2, Beyond Oasis, Crusader of Centy, Defenders of Oasis, Landstalker, and Legend of Oasis? Do any of those count? (Some of them may have XP systems...)
