I am in favor of separating the games. This is a huge problem for me on the iTunes store. I really would like to just browse the "Ports" section to see what games are available that were on a 90's console or PC(like Doom) , and an Indie section where you get to see the latest "different" style , and then maybe another section for games with big studios and higher budgets behind them like Rage HD , Infinity Blade , The Walking Dead. Mixing them all together really makes it hard to pick the good ones out.

Why does the developer console costs so much more? Are they any use after the console is discontinued ?
They could still put categories on them to allow them to be searched or sorted that way, without basically making a second marketplace. As I mentioned, it's not just a matter of exposure, but also that currently, indie games have to follow a strict set of other requirements too.

Developer consoles are part of a more comprehensive developer kit. While there would be reasons they'd be pricier than the consumer version anyway, I think a lot of the traditional pricing has simply been to keep the bar high. I think it was something that Nintendo started with the NES, like the Seal of Quality, to try to avoid another crash.

'course, if you look at it, Sony cut the PS3 dev kit cost in half in 2007, from around $20k to around $10k. For the PS4, they've been giving kits to indie devs.
So, strategies seem to be changing, it should be interesting to see what happens.

Wow, didn't see that coming (no sarcasm intended) All they need to do now is drop the price to $399 and neither console will be any different.

If the Xbox One were $399 WITH the new Kinect that'd be a huge difference. If I weren't such a big fan of PS+ and didn't expect the PS4 to have more Japanese exclusives I would probably get an Xbox One instead of a PS4 @ $399.

I'm going to wait the year for the dust to settle and more games to be announced for both of them I think. This is seriously a huge boost in favor of the Xbox One for me. Neither system exactly has enough games to entice me yet. That said, I'll happily support the Xbox One if it receives the games I want to play now.

A $100 price drop wouldn't hurt either.

You can believe me or not, but this is something I knew to be confirmed about three weeks ago when I was told confidentially by a friend in the industry. I've been having a hard time biting my tongue

This change came about, in part, from MS recognizing the royal fuckup of a roll out that they did for the Xbox One in the first two pressers and, as a consequence, convening a meeting of people with a better feel for how they might fix things. They asked for suggested fixes, and this was one they decided to make.

I know it isn't popular sentiment, but I really hope they do force purchase of the Kinect with every system for the full run of the system, if only to give developers an option to try new things for the entire install base (and thus make it worthwhile). I see it kind of like the waggle feature of the Wiimote. I didn't like how it was used in most games and preferred those with no motion controls, but I also recognize that some devs did motion controls right and took advantage of that feature in a compelling way because they knew every Wii owner had access to it. I'd hope the same happens with the new Kinect.

I just wish the Xbox One were backwards compatible so I could try Child of Eden on it. Because the Kinect controls for the game on the 360 were nice.. Just seemed like the original Kinect would screw up sometimes. Have spasms. If I could try it w/ this improved Kinect I'd probably love the game even more. Worked great with the Move, but the Kinect controls were a little more immersive.

Or at least a sequel. But I know that the guy behind the game has stepped away from game making for the time being. :(

Anyway, not a Kinect hater like most people. Just didn't find the original Kinect to work well enough and be used in enough games.

Mizoguchi? That's too bad. I don't think there's a single game of his I haven't absolutely loved. (Aside from Gunpey.)

when I originally bought the xbox 360 there were so many JRPGS for the system compared to the PS3 at the time. Unfortunately the 360 did horribly in Japan and now no JRPGS come out for the xbox 360 anymore and we can pretty much expect the Xbox one to be completely devoid of JRPGS. So I believe I shall stick with the PS4, the question now is will Cave still stay Xbox exclusive next gen?

More importantly, will CAVE hang around to even be part of the next gen? At this point it seems like it could go either way.
