Ripped off? Here? Why would you be afraid of that? :?

We have a giant feedback thread full of successful transactions.

Hey REPO, I'm realtively new here and I was really worried about doing transactions without the safety net of eBay too. After looking at the Feedback thread and getting some advice, I have made several deals here and haven't had a bad transaction yet. Most of the people have been really nice and fair.

Which reminds me:
:( Either the postal service screwed up, or the idiots who run this apartment complex lost my package. When Cara went down to check for it yesterday, the lady told her to just go into the closet and find it, even though she was supposed to sign for it. This leads me to believe that somebody might have took it upon themselves to take a few random packages for themselves. I'm really pissed and have to wait until Monday or Tuesday to get any answers.

Well, if I do sell stuff here, I will refund the difference if I overcharge for shipping. I will also offer a slight discount if dealing with people face-to-face, a la Craigslist. But the biggest deal is that I don't deal with foreign buyers! I learned the hard way what dealing with a buyer outside of the US is like, and in the end I lost money and possibly earned my only negative review.

Lots will be sold as a whole set, but sometimes individual items will be up for grabs. Basically, if you just buy a few items from the lot, you spend whatever their cost is, but buying a whole lot offers up some level of discount, which will be bigger for people in the Orlando area.

 My mom, brother and grandmother pretty much tried to convince me to never move to New York, and finally, after failing in the task, my mom just went with her typical "fine, go" tactic, her go-to when I refuse to listen to her logic.

:) But I do have some takeaways from this:

* I should at least correspond with people living in NYC, like anyone here that can tell me some of the things to expect. Maybe I'll rattle off some of my family's anti-NYC rhetorics and you can provide a counterpoint.
* They actually think that just because I don't do the dishes and the laundry constantly that I genuinely don't know how. Well, with the dishes, I know that if there's some shit that will end up still there after going through the dishwasher, it's best to scrub that shit off, and in certain situations to also soak it in hot, soapy water. And laundry's idiot-proof. I just don't do it because usually it's already been done.
* They think that just because my brother helped me when I bungled my Disney interview, they immediately assume I don't know how to do a job interview. Really, I did my best. The guy doing the interview kept asking me stuff like what I would like to do, and apparently "I just wanna work" isn't good enough. But I sure as hell couldn't just say "move to New York and be a filmmaker who works outside of the Hollywood system yet proves to be its biggest asset". He also kept asking me how I'd get to work, even though I already told him once that we have a vehicle. And because I was nervous and tired, as well as also having ADHD and possibly Asperger's, the interview could have gone better. And my brother doesn't get that I have a hard time with people in certain situations, but acts like it's my fault. Like I just CHOSE to fidget, avoid prolonged eye contact and an inability to know the answer to a question that only a trained turnstile operator would know. In reality, a job interview anywhere else would revolve around REAL questions, like why they should hire me, how many words per minute can I type, am I proficient in Microsoft Office, have I ever worked retail/food prep/etc, and the like.
* They think that New York City is another word for "Thunderdome", since almost every single hypothetical revolves around being mugged, stabbed, raped, shoved, beaten, drugged, killed or some combination of those things. And apparently every single member of New York City's 8+ million population can/will/wants to do these things to me.
* They also think that because I don't know anyone up there, I'll pretty much be alone. They act like any roommate I could end up having will try to steal from me, and that's a best-case scenario!

This thread is full of something today. It isn't win. I'm not quite sure what it is, but it is definitely something.

Half those things happened to me when I was in NYC for a day with Dave a few months ago

Seriously?

But if the statement's true, then how is it that New York City's crime rate is actually lower than any of the other major cities? And why do people still move there every day? And why are so many still living there if the city's pretty much Thunderdome 24/7?
