Y'all forget I used to be Mormon. We're the flippin' experts of cussing without using swear words. I'm the Godzilla of nonvulgar cursing! I'm the Mothra flapping master! All you beaches can sit on my dock!

Well, it was only until I was about 8 or 9. My family left the church after that. But I did use that time to train in the secret arts of Mormon swears. Hangar around me enough and you'll see I don't give a flying ship. I'll make you fumble over your words cuz I'm a bad pass motherfather. I just kick back and stretch out my legs because I'm sofa king on it.

If it really is a case of not having enough new blood, then yeah I do think more articles of significant depth are the way to go. It's good for search. While it is possible for a forum thread to rank, articles are a lot more shareable on platforms like facebook and Reddit.
The problem is that, as mentioned, most people who are capable of doing it either don't have the time, don't have the motivation, or they've got their own hustle going on. I guess you could say it's a catch 22, it's like you need to find new people to do the work of getting new people.
Heated political discussion will always be a thing with video gaming. It's not like we chose that fate, but it's been thrust upon us since the 90s. I've seen some forums outright ban political discussion, but even as someone who'd prefer if politics didn't exist, I think that's a "road to hell paved with good intentions" sort of move.
I similarly don't feel that an anti-cursing policy or word filter would be any better. Sure, there's a lot of content out there that goes for that family-friendly approach and I'm all for carving yourself a niche from that when we're talking about one-way communication, but when the communication goes both ways I think it creates problems ... usually followed by dissent of whoever put those rules in place. (usually mild dissent, like "Why the hell did my 'what the f***' get changed to 'what the Pikachu'?" followed quickly be "Pikachu the mods!")
Granted part of that is that I just can't understand why someone would be that concerned about cursing considering retro gaming doesn't exactly appeal to the under 18 crowd, but I don't have kids.
Anyway, that's a lot of rambling. TL:DR: make more articles of very high usefulness, get them shared on social media, then you'll get more users. If that's what you guys need.

That reminds me of Tim Hawkins and his Christian curse words bit. Hilarious stuff!

I was in agreement here, but then I thought I'd pick my battles. It's not much of a concession, so if it solves a problem....frack it.

Careful this is a drama thread and you said frack, expect at least many stern looks or comments from some environmentalists over it.

Sad thing is I've used a crapton of these at school just to not get in trouble when I was in the public school system. Especially since i usually either had or was near the teachers who I'd get in trouble with almost every freaking time I'd cuss for real. Of course then there's the gold I heard a guy use when I did try out for soccer back in high school: "Nuckin Futs!". I lost it when I heard that one....

My favorite one to use is "Bass Ackwards".
