Yeah, I actually have a good mix of first- and third-party Wii titles. Lots of overlooked games there.
Removing the first-party stuff is definitely a blow, though, as most of it is incredible.

See I disagree with you on both those accounts. First off Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors was not a rail shooter. It had linear paths yes, but divergent ones in which you were fully in control of your progression. As someone who has finished Dragon Quest Swords I would say the game is actually a very linear action-RPG. And it was a pretty fun game too. Also you didn't even shoot in that game, you used the Wii Remote like a sword actually.Tanooki wrote:ended up being mutilated halfassed rail shooters like Dragon Quest and Dead Space were which was just insulting
Dead Space: Extraction is a rail shooter, but a damn fine one. And in co-op mode it is extremely fun, one of the best co-op games from last generation. It also has excellent graphics and great controls. I loved it and have finished it twice over with two different co-op partners. Yes the game design was divergent from its mainline series, but in no way did it feel dumbed down or "insulting".
Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Re: Nintendo Handheld Gaming Thread (Game Boy to DS)
I've had both, enjoyed Dragon Quest and finished it too. Dead Space I did not. I will straight up admit I got really angry about that one after I read some terrible stuff online from the game developer who made it for EA. They had started it as a rail game, but found they learned the ins and outs of the system and converted it to a FPS like on the PS3 and so on. EA caught wind of it after much was done and forced them to make it a rail shooter because that's what they wanted and didn't want the competition out there against the other titles. It's another of those lists of reasons I don't buy EA games anymore. You don't take an improved better package and foul it up just to make a point. The game developer was not happy about that one. The thing is I really dont' care how good or not the rail shooter was, and some were good, even those Resident Evil games, but the fact the Wii got stiffed on a lot of good franchise titles completely or got saddled with gun games just sucked.
Mind you if you want to debate this we should make a Wii thread, this is for handheld.
OH and the post office screwed up another day again, none of the 3 overdue packages have shown up yet again including the priority mail one that should have been here Monday.

Nah I'm not about debating opinions, that's just silly. I don't mind adding a contrasting opinion though. So I will add that while there are a lot of rail shooters on Wii, many of those rail shooters are extraordinarily good. As a matter of fact, my all time favorite game on the system is a rail shooter.Tanooki wrote:Mind you if you want to debate this we should make a Wii thread, this is for handheld.

Man, I knew what was going to be behind that spoiler tag before I clicked it. Good choice!

Re: Nintendo Handheld Gaming Thread (Game Boy to DS)
My handheld gaming skipped over the DS generation completely and I have a modest 11 games in my library.
The stylus stuff bogs down a lot of games for me. Mario Hoops 3 on 3 is one I've played a good bit (only topped by Geometry Wars: Galaxies in my hours logged) and fortunately there are "cheat" controls (their naming for this option) where you can actually use the buttons.
This leads me to my question - is the Diddy Kong Racing release dependent on the stylus exclusively? That's one I have considered purchasing.
My DS library:
Castlevania: Order Of Ecclesia
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy III
Geometry Wars: Galaxies
Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass
Mario Hoops: 3 on 3
Metroid Prime Pinball
New International Track & Field
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
Super Mario 64 DS
Tecmo Bowl Kickoff

My DS library is pretty massive. It's possibly my favorite handheld and I'm not an RPG guy so take that as you will.

I agree, you just have to remember to go there while you're looking elsewhere for a good price.Fragems wrote:Just picked up Monster Rancher Explorer(GBC) off Amazon for $4.28 shipped. Amazon Warehouse seems to have some awesome deals creep up for the GB-DS pretty often.
I'll say you did well, all 3 of those games are going around $10 these days.ninjainspandex wrote:Just won these games off Ebay, not a bad price for all 3. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gameboy-Color-G ... true&rt=nc
Almost like what they did when Yoshi's Island came to the GBA. I'll get a good price for it first.Cronozilla wrote:Yoshi's Island DS also changes a lot of the sound effects and as a fan of the original that actually bothered me a lot when it initially came out. It looks similar, but it feels like something is off. Also the game can be extremely unfair.

I've got Diddy kong racing. It's been awhile since I've played it but I don't remember using the stylus for anything in the game.retrosportsgamer wrote:This leads me to my question - is the Diddy Kong Racing release dependent on the stylus exclusively? That's one I have considered purchasing.

I got the bonus "Mona Pizza Video" by putting Warioware Twisted into the GBA slot with Warioware Touched.
The message was the best part.
"Just for forking over your money, you get to watch this hot new video! It hasn't even shown up on the Internet yet!"
But it has.
