This. They are vanilla ports, sure, but they're also the best versions of those games available in terms of performance. Faster load times, 480p support (I think? Correct me if i'm wrong), higher framerate FMVs, and only one disc as opposed to two in the case of RE2. My personally preferred versions.Ack wrote:Seriously, you guys. Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Harvest Moon: Magical Melody. Seriously.

I'm not much of a fan of RE to begin with, so I'm not an unbiased observer, but I think there have to be other games on the 'cube that fit in better than ports of RE2/3.
Oh, as far as PSO on XBOX goes, just tried my copy out and I'm still rollin'. Even managed to start up a new character. It's just a matter of having registered your Live account in the game before they shut the servers down. Most people aren't in that boat, so yeah, lots of coasters around. Maybe you can even find a save game to put on there? Apparently that can work if you can get a profile in on a memory card. Or transfer in other ways if you're hacked.

If Chibi-Robo doesn't make the list I'm going to buy up all the Atari ET carts that were unburied and drop them in a big pile in your driveway. Have fun getting out of that pile of crap.mjmjr25 wrote:Needs more drama.prfsnl_gmr wrote: Skies of Arcadia Legends - This is the best version of a classic JRPG that consistently makes "best games of all time" lists. It would be a crime not to include it.
What would you do if it didn't make the list. Details, please!

For you, sure, but some of us are survival horror buffs, and unfortunately the GC was largely lacking in that department when compared to the amount available on PS2 and Xbox. But for those who had a GC, the number of Resident Evil games was huge:Sarge wrote:I'm not much of a fan of RE to begin with, so I'm not an unbiased observer, but I think there have to be other games on the 'cube that fit in better than ports of RE2/3.
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 3 Nemesis
Resident Evil Code Veronica X
Resident Evil 0
Resident Evil remake
Resident Evil 4
The series should be represented in some form or fashion on the list in my opinion. But RE remake and RE 4 both had better ports later, and RECVX is a port that isn't as good as other, later ports of the game. So RE 0, RE2, and RE3 are the best choices, and of the three, RE2 is the superior game overall. Admittedly the GC version is probably the definitive version of RE 0, since it has the same features as the Wii port and is slightly cheaper. But that's a judgement call.

Throw in another for Harvest Moon: Magical Melody.
I'll read through this when I get time if there's anything missed I think needs attention. Also, are exclusives the priority? I would throw up a vote for GUN, if not.

Well at least if you already had a profile you can still play the game offline. And I do wonder if say you copied that profile to a memory card you could play the game on another Xbox with that save. If I hadn't of already sold my Xbox copy of PSO we'd try this out for science.Sarge wrote:Maybe you can even find a save game to put on there? PLAY KING'S FIELD.

From my understanding, you can. I'd like to try it out with another save, I have the means to get a save on a memory card. Probably not going to try it tonight, though!Exhuminator wrote:Well at least if you already had a profile you can still play the game offline. Also, back on topic, I noticed that Baten Kaitos: Origins was listed as worthy of discussion, but the original is not. If I had my druthers about it (not a lock, obviously), I'd put the first game in over Origins. When the combat system finally clicks, there's not much more satisfying than chaining an amazing combo together in a heated battle.

Eh, that's pretty subjective. I like the Gamecube controller. But otherwise, I agree that it would be nice to hear how (or rather, if) any of the multi-platform games mentioned are better on the GCN.dsheinem wrote:Given how much the GCN controller sucks

OK man, now I think you're just messing with me here.mjmjr25 wrote:13. Wario Worldland
Thanks for including a few of the titles I was pushing for.
Also, I'd like to make a general point here. Why do we assume that an XBLA release is superior to a Gamecube release? Just because of High Definition? I value physical copies more than I value High Definition graphics. I may be in the minority, but I don't think I'm entirely alone here. This is a retro forum afterall.
The Japanese version has the Streets of Rage series; the US version has the Vectorman series. Would I have preferred SoR? Sure. I love beat 'em ups, but Vectorman ain't so bad.Ack wrote:Sonic Gems Collection - Only on GC in the NTSC-U region, but this version also lacks the Streets of Rage series.
I think Need for Speed Most Wanted (2005) plays very nicely on the Gamecube Controller. The big analog shoulder buttons are mapped to gas and break. It just feels better than the PS2 or the XBOX controller. I'm not necessarily saying that it belongs in the best 30 Gamecube games; I'm just citing this as an example of a multiplatform title that works best with the Gamecube controller. By the way, there's another game with the same title release in 2012. These are two different games.Reprise wrote:Eh, that's pretty subjective. I like the Gamecube controller.
