Re: Same Game, Different Name 2 - Game Sack

That's pretty surprising about that one B&B game being that deep. One possible future one to consider if you want to mix in computer stuf is G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero. There's the C64 version and the first NES game with that same title. I might have mentioned it last time as well but Crossfire for Famicom and Genesis (was Airwolf in Japan) are different. 80s Bard's Tale versus 00s?

Check your PMs, :P

I love the Genesis version of Beavis and Butthead.

I'm surprised you didn't mention the Game Gear version though. It too is different from the others. It doesn't come close to toppling the Genesis, but it is fun in its own right.

Lots of great games in this episode, good stuff.

Edit:

You might consider taking a look at Donald Duck Goin' Quackers. The PS1/N64/DC versions are different from the PS2/GC versions. The game was also released on GBC and GBA, and those are unique as well.

There was also one on the Master System (I think PAL only?), they start pretty similar but branch off into being there own games. I feel like the Master System game 'flows' a bit better and feels a bit smoother. Yes the graphics are a big step down (Though I think the animation is better on the SMS), but I actually think its the better game.

It still has the Aliens popping out of nowhere though.

I did record the Game Gear version (via emulation) and even write some stuff about it. But ultimately I didn't think that it was tremendously special enough and the episode was running pretty long already. In a nutshell, I felt like it started out kind of like the SNES version but that it was a better game. Is the SMS version the same (if it exists)?

Great game choices. Really surprised no Mechwarrior, Virtual-On, MechAssault or Armored Core games mentioned. But I guess that's why I like your show, you guys don't always do the expected games.

Some of these have been mentioned in other episodes, but my personal favorites not mentioned in this episode would be:

The Kore Gang - Wii
Solatorobo: Red the Hunter - Ds
Tail Concerto - PS1
Wartech: Senko no Ronde - X360
Bulk Slash - Sat
Cyberbots - Sat
Ranger X - Gen
Faselei! - NGPC
Metal Wolf Chaos - Xbox
Sakura Wars - Wii/PS2
Metal Mech - NES
Battle Engine Aquila - PS2/Xbox
Iron Soldier 1 - 3 - various
Tech Romancer - DC
Future Cop LAPD - PS1
Metal Warriors - SNES
Herzog Zwei - Gen
Final Zone series

Man I need to stop listing mech games. I didn't realize I had and liked so many.
Where's my chippy? There's my chippy.

I know it isn't a great game, but I've always had a fondness for Magmax. It is probably just nostalgia for the combining aspect and the cool fake 3D ground in the arcade version back in the day. I know you didn't do any Macross games, but I like Scrambled Valkyrie on SFami and 2036 on PCE a lot and the one on SATJ isn't too bad either. I really wanted to like that PS2 game, but screw that "protect the shuttles as they launch" mission. That totally killed that game for me and after a bunch of failures I never touched that game again. I never tried the Southern Cross one after that.

Surprised you didn't at least mention Gungriffon Blaze on PS2.

Why Game Arts decided to ruin a perfectly servicable game by making the analog sticks operate as complete opposites to what every other game does is forever beyond me.

On the PC front Gigantic Army and Gunhound are pretty damn sweet mech games.

Oh man, you guys didn't like Gun Griffon that much?! Granted, I'm probably looking at it with rose tinted glasses from that one weekend I rented it nearly 20 years ago, but I sincerely remembered loving it!

Would have loved to see you guys cover the Battletech game on the Genesis, but as everyone above are insinuating, looks like you guys have enough for a second episode somewhere down the road. Love your show! Keep up the good work!
