Anyway one disappointing thing was that I tried out the San Francisco like level and it didn't have any gravity tricks from what I could tell
That level does have some. About halfway through the track, when the streetcars start to show up, there is anti-gravity that you can access on the far left. A lot of people take it, but it is much faster to take the inside track, but more risky if you run into said streetcars.
I have found that a lot of times, the optional anti-gravity portions of the track are meant as a safe path to avoid obstacles, but is a much longer path. You see it in a lot of tracks like that.

I went over to a friends house and played it for a few hours. I think the game is good but not as good as the others that i've played. The biggest thing i don't like is how you HAVE to drift now in order to do very well. And i didn't play MK7 so this was the first time i've played with gliders and i don't like them and would rather not have them. I still think its a good game though.
If i had to rank my favorite Mario Kart games i've played it would go

1- Snes
2- 64
3- Wii
4- MK8
You are right that drifting is essential in this iteration. With the gliders, it takes some getting used to, but what makes it a great addition is the ability to elongate your air time by combo-ing off of ramps and the sort. Luckily, they have the three different vehicle types that have very different handling to help cater to those that aren't huge drifters.
Although I disagree, I am very curious to know your reasons for enjoying the original SNES version the most? Very rarely do I see people put that at the top of their lists.

?
I mean, that's the sole reason I like DKC3 more than DKC2

The nostalgia argument always bothered me. I get it when you use it to say that a game is more meaningful to you over another, but sometimes when people say it as an argument to claim a game is, "Better," than another is a whole other story. Nostalgia tells me Sonic CD is the best sonic game, but looking back and actually playing says, "ummmmmm......no."
There are times when they overlap. My nostalgia with the Sega Saturn games is warranted, as games like Dragon Force and Panzer Dragoon Saga are truly good games AND gave me tons of memories.

I played some 3 player local last night, and the reduction in image quality and FPS is really huge! I had read about that before hand, but seeing it in person really makes you appreciate how awesome it looks in single/2 player modes.
