Picked this game up on black friday with a gold 3DS XL, and I'm loving it so far. Lots of challenges and it makes you think, but not to the point of frustration.

I'm kind of iffy on the rental system, because even if I can make it through the dungeon without dying, I know that I'm probably gonna die a few times on the boss, so I end up buying the item (for like 1000 rupees  ) instead of renting it and having to go back and forth every time i lose to the boss.

But I love the exploration and no limits world, definitely much better then the other two DS zeldas (even though i liked phantom hourglass alot, but the transportation focus got kind of boring by spirit tracks).

this seems to be everyone's thought until they actually play the game. Screenshots just don't do it justice.
Yeah, my first impression was, "this looks like crap," but once you start playing it things come together nicely.

So for everyone stressing about buying items because you're worried about dying to a boss, you'll want to buy every item anyway, as there's a collection quest that lets you upgrade items you own to be better. And the upgrades for pretty much everything but the bomb are pretty awesome.

Just finished the Thieves dungeon in the second world, it was pretty cool. It was fun having an NPC to protect and open doors with. I loved springing the trap door during that one enemy ambush. The boss fight was cool except for that annoying part where its head start flying around the arena spewing black stuff. That got on my nerves a bit just because of its random movements and it gets harder not getting hit between that and its body still attacking too.

I'm loving that tornado wand, makes dealing with groups of enemies a breeze

Beat the game in three sittings. I have 99% it - I have everything but one heart piece (stupid baseball game). I would say it is the best handheld Zelda since the Oracles. So second best one released. It is setup so well that it just works. My only issues were that you could get bottles so much earlier than you can get the net, there were a couple poorly placed Maiamais (really one indoors and the rest are outside), and there were places where if you didnt have the 3d on they were fairly difficult. But the game was so much fun I can let those slide. I just hate the baseball game, it does not click with me.

Overall I would say it is my favorite game of 2013.

Is there some cosmic law stating that ice and snow levels in video games must always be super obnoxious?

I just finished the Ice Dungeon in Lorule and it's the first dungeon I've completed so far that I can say I legitimately hated. The game's been all hits so far for me and this is its first miss. But maybe 10% of all ice levels in the history of video games actually didn't suck, so I guess it's to be expected.

Oh well, the Skull Forest dungeon was pretty cool. And I've got an upgraded Master Sword, so I'm pretty happy about that.

It was no LttP ice dungeon. Everyone I see who complains about the water temple in OoT obviously never bashed their heads against the wall figuring out the exact path you need to take in the ice dungeon (with orb flips) to be able to push that block down to hit the switch. Getting the Cane of Somaria from Misery Mire is cheating.

Finished the Dark Dungeon, it was pretty cool. I was worried about the stealth section leading up to it as so many games drop the ball when they try to do stealth, but I got through it on the first try with no issues. That boss got on my nerves though when it started rampaging around the room after losing all its armor. My only minor gripe with this game is most bosses seem to have one annoying, cheap attack pattern they go into once you do a lot of damage to them. The usual pattern is, "Hey this is a pretty cool boss fight. I think I got this figured out <boss starts flashing red>. JESUS CHRIST WHAT ARE YOU DOING!? You just took off half my health! Where's that fairy I bottled up!?"

And what's with the Bee Badge? I use a rupee loop in the Ice Dungeon to get 9999 rupees to buy the Gold Bee for the Bee Keeper and all I got was this useless badge. Lame

Still having a blast though

You can buy the gold bee? I found it randomly in literally the next bush I cut after he mentioned the gold bee near the beginning of the game.

So, yeah, the reward shouldn't be that large, since it costs nothing to accomplish.
