-Noise, how is the DC version? What do the controls look like? Do you get analog strafing with the shoulder triggers, or do you use the x and b buttons?

the controls are VERY unique -- and other DC FPS games use them.

Face buttons move you up, down, left, right accordingly. The analog stick is to aim. Right shoulder is to shoot, left shoulder to cycle thru weapons and d-pad up is jump, down is crouch, left is flashlight, right is "use." Most people hate this setup, but for whatever reason this is my preferred way to play an FPS that requires aiming. It just makes sense to me.

That's effectively the setup for analog aiming on N64 shooters like Goldeneye. C-buttons are your move with analog stick as aim.

ah that makes sense. Yeah I really like this setup a lot. Like I mentioned elsewhere, I'm far more effective playing this way than using two analog sticks. Don't know.

EDIT:

Anyway, progress. Been playing an hour or more and just got to the section On A Rail right after killing that big thing with Tesla coils.

spent 45 mins or so in the Rails tonight. It's slow, but atmospheric and fun. But then found myself on a lift getting blasted to shit by soldiers from like every angle. Not cool. :?

Cool level, but it pays to jump off the train, explore, and wipe everything out before proceeding.

I remember that lift! Yeah...my suggestion is to try chucking grenades into the other lift.

What a fun game. The Source version was great, a nice visual upgrade to the original, and I think I preferred the tweaked physics to be honest. The ending is still great, and I had forgotten just how drastically different the tone at the end of this game is to what comes next in HL2.

I think I'll do some more HL via the expansions before the month is out, but I've been neglecting other games
