Guess who just went almost all the way to the first boss with a magician without knowing how to level up? Going to start over today. Starting with 3 strength is brutal, there's not a shield you can use in the game.

Also what starting gift should I take?

The best starting gift is probably the Petrified Object; you can trade it at the crow's nest and either get some crafting materials or a potentially nice weapon. The rest of the starting gifts you will get within the first level, so they don't really help much.

Well it's awhile before you get another Life Ring. The bump in HP is pretty handy.

Eh I'm not to worried about the health I can handle myself well enough I'm more interested in opening areas further down the line. I took the giant tree seed, thought it might grow a tree that takes me somewhere.

I think you give that to someone (something) in the Forrest of Giants.

No, that's the consumable you use when someone invades you so that all the mobs will turn against them. It's really funny when someone retreats into a pack to pop an estus flask.

Speaking of invasion, is this why you would use a Llyod's Talisman? Does it prevent only invaders from estus or is it everyone?
