Southwestern PA here, just barely missed getting hit hard. Thank god for the appalachian mountains, I guess. We never get any bad earthquakes, hurricanes, or tornados, but we did have that blizzard from hell 2 years ago.

By shutting down due to an unsafe environment, I would assume. It could be flooded or something.

There's a gas shortage on the Island right now. Here's the thing though: I'm willing to bet if people weren't getting gas out of a panic then there wouldn't be that big of a deal with gas, if any deal at all. Wednesday night I had some one tell me I better get gas because there's gonna be a shortage (I didn't - HA!). I'm sure this person heard this from Face Book. I'm sure the idiots help spread the panic. Now there IS a gas shortage. Mainly due to people getting gas that don't actually need it.

The highlights are... Most gas stations are out of gas, the ones that do have gas have lines backing up the roads. I've heard of a few fights breaking out. Take all of this into account, it's just proof that people in general are stupid.

There's still plenty of people without power. I know of a few that have a small generator to just keep their fridge on. Now these poor people have to deal with this bullshit to get gas for their generators. So some ass hole can fuel up his Escalade, and grandma can top off her tank even though she has no reason to leave the house.

I've already ranted a little about my experience at work on Wednesday. Just to recap: The supermarket that I work in didn't have power until midday Wednesday. What I forgot to mention before is the sickening behavior I saw from some people. The power only just came back on, and the store was just beginning to stock perishables that didn't perish (no deliveries). There were a few instances, but the best example was this one lady I saw. Complaining about petty stuff as she probably normally does while shopping. But honestly, complaining that a bag of salad doesn't have an expiration date longer than 5 days, that made me think. First of all, it's cut fucking lettuce... it doesn't last that long. You wont find a better expiration date. Even if there was a longer date... why would you need it to last that long? Are you not planning on eating it until a week passes? Then why buy it now!? Secondly, get a clue. There's people sitting at home with no power, throwing out the spoiled food in their refrigerators, and you're here complaining that a bag of prepared salad doesn't have a long enough expiration date for you. There's people whose homes are flooded, whose homes were burnt down or otherwise ruined in one way or another by the hurricane. The power was only just restored to the store. Man, people are upsetting.

Yeah, same thing happened in the late 20's when people thought the banks were going to run out of money.

Duder. When there is even talk of snow in Eastern NC people flip the fuck out. Milk, bread, beer, eggs, and gasoline are sold out in hours by people in a crazed panic. It's as if the end of the world is nigh, and it's basically the entire cities population's normal modus operandi.

Fear has always been and always will be the biggest marketing tool. I thought South Park did an excellent job of displaying that with their Home Security episode this season. I doubt things will change.

There's still a gas shortage. Every station I've seen yesterday and today was closed. I heard the tankers are coming today/tonight to fill up all the stations, but I would assume that would mean miles of lines leading up to no gas again. Or maybe they'll be continually bringing gas in, so the lines will die down after a day or two. I don't know if I'm going into work tomorrow. I have some gas in my car, but I don't know how long it has to last me.

There's suppose to be a storm hitting us on Wednesday. I'm crossing my fingers. We're still not all back up from Sandy. I'm hoping the winds on Wednesday wont knock down trees that are on the verge, and stuff of that nature.
