what is a shoto clone
and a shoto

Shoto is short for Shotokan, which is a style of karate - the style that Ken and Ryu supposedly practice according to their SFII bios. Technically, the word actually refers to a particular length katana...but not in this context

AFAIK, shotos are the "originals" so to speak, Ken, Ryu, Gouki/Akuma, Dan probably...maybe extending to a few others in Street Fighter. As the general pattern for special moves is often copied to other characters in the series, or to other games entirely, you get shoto clones, which just basically indicates that they play similarly to Ryu (a list of sorts).

I spent a lot of time replaying the mini games until I could ace them. I have to think that was the first Tennis game to have those type of challenges. Since the roster wasn't very big, you got to know all of the players too. It was simple like that in a good way.

I've never cared about any tennis game other than Virtua Tennis. In fact, I didn't even realize that a tennis video game could be fun until Virtua Tennis.

Absolutely. First time I saw a flat-screen arcade game in what was possibly a stand up candy cab too. Thought I was watching TV.

Both that and Tennis 2K2 (VT 2) are fine DC picks. 2nd one is better if only for the expanded tour mode with more games and character creation (male & female)

yo noise,

I read your DC reviews whenever I log into RFGen to add games, so like once a week. Nice stuff!

Now you gotta get a Dreamcast JRPG. 8)

gonna check out your other reviews, but I decided to look at your most recent first (Virtua Tennis).

Virtua Tennis is prob the best game that you have reviewed so far. It's a favorite of mine as well. Though Tennis games are usually pretty fun, their simplistic nature is what makes them so addicting.

Sadly, I've heard the recent Virtua Tennis installments aren't that great. But off the top of my head, I would say Virtua Tennis is the best Tennis game I've played.

First off, I like this. Its nice to see ones first take on games I know and love. I will be awaiting the next review whatever it might be. :D

Second, I'm not sure if you take suggestions but maybe a racing game in the future? I loved Test Drive Lemans but maybe you could even do something more arcadey like San Francisco Rush 2049 or Re Volt if simulation is not your thing. Also 4x4 Evolution was great fun with its floaty physics and I think it might even still be playable online.

I personally think you should do Maken X next, if you can find a copy that is. It's a very curious game.
