Got to play this a bit this morning. LOVE IT so far. I do sort of wish the dash and regular attack button weren't the same. But after some adjustment it works fine.
Another potential 'GotY' for me? Well, we'll see. I did love Muramasa, and this seems like a natural progression of Muramasa and other Vanillaware games.
Also picked up Tales of Xillia. Besides the likely horrible dubbing I've heard that it's a fan favorite in Japan. Just need to finish up Bioshock before I play much of that one.

Nope.
Tales of Symphonia HD will be the first Tales of game with dual audio, I believe. Can't wait for that. Dual audio or Japanese only should be pretty much mandatory in these anime style games because the dubbing usually makes me want to bang my head against a wall. It's one of few things that Ni no Kuni got right. Pretty good dub there.
Thankfully in Dragon's Crown the narrator dub is actually pretty enjoyable. And I was able to set my character to Japanese audio for combat sounds and such. Sounds good.
I played for an hour or hour and a half last night. I enjoy it. Game looks awesome and plays smoothly. I tried the amazon and the wizard. The melee class amazon is much easier to play, atleast at first, than the spellcaster. Game was very easy at first with trash enemies, but the harpy boss was tough my first go around with each character.

Yeah I had to use all my potions as the witch, is there a block button?

Yep hold the attack button, atleast for amazon. Both of my characters died. I ran back through with amazon as lvl 2 and upgraded weapon and destroyed harpy taking little damage. So maybe just inexperience.

I had trouble on the first boss as well. Died once but it looks like you get two or three lives. Now that I am a little more experienced, have a few skills, and have AI partners, the game has been a little easier. And still equally enjoyable. Vanillaware is awesome. Haven't seen the slowdown that the Vita version has yet. I can only imagine how many enemies are on screen when that happens.
Touch function is definitely a huge plus for Vita when searching for hidden loot and directing the treasure/lock pick guy. I can see that being slightly annoying with the analog stick controlled mouse cursor on the PS3.
Didn't see a block button, but the evade button is useful for a non-tank character like my elf.
For me holding the attack button is an elemental attack since I got a skill upgrade. But maybe it is block at the same time? Not sure.
I thought the first boss was unreasonably hard for a level 1 character to take on with no allies. That left a bad taste in my mouth as I hate having to use potions. They feel like a crutch to me. However, I eventually figured out how to beat it fairly easily. You have to stand near it, and then dodge behind it when it starts doing it slash attack, then just hit it from behind as it's doing it. Whenever the harpy takes to the air, you need to immediately run towards it and get under it so it can't hit you with its dive attack. With this strategy, you can beat it with few hits, if any at all.
Now my problem is that my trophies for the game won't sync for some reason. Oh well, I'm still having a great time with it. The elf seems like the hardest character to play for in my opinion, while the sorceress seems the easiest. Though, in fairness I haven't tried the dwarf or knight yet.
