Dark Souls Hype Thread of Preparing To Die!
Re: Dark Souls Hype Thread of Preparing To Die!
Oh alright. Where does the valley of drakes fit in there?
I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

Dear god, Gwyn is a MONSTER. Unfortunately I'm a melee-only build with zero offensive magic, I feel like this battle is flat out impossible. I can't get anywhere near him or I'm dead in seconds.
Re: Dark Souls Hype Thread of Preparing To Die!
I'm not there yet, but have you tried Iron Flesh? It turned the Four Kings fight from massive frustration into a one-sided beat down. Since it's Pyromancy no stats are needed.brunoafh wrote:Dear god, Gwyn is a MONSTER. Unfortunately I'm a melee-only build with zero offensive magic, I feel like this battle is flat out impossible. I accidentally killed Lautrec... so no Pyromancy for me. I managed to beat him just now, but I had to summon a phantom. He was melee based too, it was a sweet battle. On to NG+!
Re: Dark Souls Hype Thread of Preparing To Die!
Dark Souls patch 1.04 is incoming. (might be out in some regions) Here are the patch notes:
- Some magic effects have been revised. (Magic Shield, Greater Magic Shield, Tranquil Walk of Peace, Ring of Fog, Iron Flesh)
- Elemental enhanced and Stat enhanced weapons have been rebalanced.
- Some slight adjustments have been made to other weapons, equipment, and magic. (Pyromancer's Flame's magic adjustment)
- Matching and multiplayer conditions have been adjusted.
- Defeating a boss in multiplayer will now reward the host with the full amount of souls from the boss.
- When failing to invade a player's world using the Cracked Red Eye Orb, the item will no longer be used up.
- Adjustments to the amount of suols dropped by enemies.
- Adjustments to the item drops from enemies.
- Some bosses will drop Humanity and Homeward Bones now.
- Increased Drop rates for certain Covenant items and Equipment Enhancement materials which had extremely low drop rates.
- Adjusted the Item Discovery increase rate which scales with Humanity levels.
- Item lists in shops have been adjusted. (Bottomless Box added to Male Undead Merchant. Bunch of arrows added to Female Undead Merchant, Andrei, Domnhall, Giant Blacksmith, and Vamos. Domnhall will sell the Master Key after he moves to the Firelink Shrine. Giant and Vamos both sell the various equipment boxes. Giant sells a bunch of shards now. Vamos sells Titanite Shards. Ingward sells Transient Curse.)
- The amount of Faith required to join the Sunlight Covenant is now 25 instead of 50. The formula for reducing it with multiplayer remains the same.
- Paying for your sins is now cheaper. The formula is Level x 500 souls, instead of Level x 2000 souls previously.
- Equipment Weight adjustments.
- Lock-on behavior has been adjusted.
- Fixed certain cases of game freezing.
- Changed the way souls are displayed in the Level Up Menu.
- Fixed the exploit with infinite weapon/magic usage.
- Fixed the 1 second delay during certain attack animations.
- Fixed the bug where Solaire isn't in New Game+.
- Fixed the shard bug with Frampt which took away all your shards if you had more than 99.
- Fixed getting stuck in certain parts of the map, being unable to progress.
- Fixed various English translation errors in the overseas version of the game.
Re: Dark Souls Hype Thread of Preparing To Die!
Holy crap. I knew they were rebalancing the weapons, certain spells/items that unbalance PVP, and the infinite item use glitch (for infinite souls/humanity) but I wasn't expecting all those other Quality of Life changes.

Re: Dark Souls Hype Thread of Preparing To Die!
Now THAT'S a patch. I wish From had supported the Japanese version of Demon's Souls like this, because there were tons of game wrecking dupe tricks and that world tendency bug online bug really sucked.
I've been messing around more with the online play, anyone been experimenting? The Gravelord covenant interests me most, but successfully cursing another player's world is so hard unless you're in the Painted World or Dark Anor Londo, in which case it's nearly a guarantee. People have been figuring out a lot of the requirements for a successful cursing on GFaqs and the wiki, but it's still seems harder than it should be. Hopefully the patch will make some adjustments with the match making there.
Path of the Dragon is pretty fun too, but Dragon Eye summon signs are very scarce. I've only seen them in Kiln. Forest Hunters and the Darkmoon Blades are a lot of fun as well, you get a nice steady flow of invasions that yield worthwhile rewards upon success. The online play definitely needs some tweaking, but it's a lot of fun and very well thought out.

Re: Dark Souls Hype Thread of Preparing To Die!
Demon's Souls did recieve a patch in Japan didn't it? Which was simply used as the disc version for other regions. But really, I would suspect that it wasn't fixed as much because it was a suprise success and they didn't have the resources to devote to fixing her up.
Anyways, more news. Dark Souls has managed to ship 1.5 million worldwide! Thats shipped, not sold, a lot of those are probably still in retail stores. But I have no doubt they will all sell at some point.
They even gave us a breakdown by region:
Japan: Released on 9/22, 370,000 shipped
North America: Released on 10/4, 620,000 shipped
Europe: Released on 10/7, 470,000 shipped
Asia: Released on 10/18, 40,000 shipped
North America, Europe and Asia it is available on PS3 and 360, published by Namco Bandai. In Japan it is available on PS3 and published by From Software themselves.

Yes, a few, but they never fixed a lot of the really nasty glitches and exploits.MrHealthy wrote:Demon's Souls did recieve a patch in Japan didn't it?
It's great to see this game doing so well.
